The importance of green water in water resource management. Conceptual classification of terrestrial water components highlighting the central role of green water in land‐atmosphere interactions. This schematic distinguishes green water (soil moisture available for plant uptake and evapotranspiration) from blue water (surface water, groundwater, and ...

Management Considerations for Prescribed Fires in Riparian Zones of Florida
Riparian zones connect a body of water and upland habitat and provide many ecosystem services. In many southeastern US ecosystems, prescribed fires are a management tool, yet little is known about how fire impacts the riparian zone.

Carbon storage of headwater riparian zones in an agricultural landscape
Background In agricultural regions, streamside forests have been reduced in age and extent, or removed entirely to maximize arable cropland. Restoring and reforesting such riparian zones to mature forest, particularly along headwater streams (which ...

Remote Sensing of Riparian Ecosystems
Riparian zones are dynamic ecosystems that form at the interface between the aquatic and terrestrial components of a landscape. They are shaped by complex interactions between the biophysical components of river systems, including hydrology ...

Effect of Hydropeaking on Decomposition in Riparian Zones
ABSTRACT Hydropeaking causes unnatural flow and water level fluctuations in the riparian zone. Biological processes in the riparian zone, such as nutrient cycling, are affected by changes in temperature, oxygen, and moisture, which are all to some extent influenced by the water level.

ABSTRACT Subfossil insect communities from the Quartz Creek site provide a detailed record of both Late Pleistocene steppe–tundra and Holocene boreal forest ecosystems in central Yukon Territory, Canada. Fifteen Pleistocene assemblages (marine isotope stages [MIS] 4 to 2) are dominated by steppe–tundra and dry‐tundra taxa, particularly the weevils ...

Numerical modeling of the hydraulic impact of riparian vegetation
This paper presents results of numerical modelling of riverbed segment with riparian vegetation performed with use of CCHE2 software. Vegetation zones are places where dynamic of water flow increases.

Ringtail (Bassariscus astutus) survival in southwestern Oregon
We captured and monitored radio‐collared ringtails over 2 years to estimate monthly and annual survival rates. We found that annual survival rates were much higher within forested landscapes in Oregon than for populations in the southwestern United States.
