Induction of labor is one of the most commonly performed obstetric procedures. Many patients undergoing labor induction require cervical ripening. In an era where cost and patient satisfaction have become paramount, the idea of outpatient cervical ripening is appealing; provided it can be performed in a safe and cost effective manner.

Biochemistry of Cheese Ripening [PDF]
Rennet‐coagulated cheeses are ripened for periods ranging from about two weeks to two or more years depending on variety. During ripening, microbiological and biochemical changes occur that result in the development of the flavour and texture characteristic of the variety.

Ethylene controls fruit ripening. During the past few years, reversible inhibition of tomato fruit senescence has been accomplished by inhibiting key steps in the ethylene biosynthetic pathway with antisense RNA and by overexpression of a bacterial enzyme.

A limited number of studies have provided preliminary data on the efficacy and safety of PGE2 used as an outpatient cervical ripening agent. Multiple inpatient studies have confirmed the effect of PGE2 in favorably changing the cervical score, reducing the incidence of failed inductions and instrumental deliveries, shortening the induction-to-delivery ...

Bananas are climacteric fruit which means that they go through a period of development, which is climaxed by endogenous biosynthesis of ethylene that initiates the ripening process. Bananas are harvested at the pre-climacteric period to facilitate marketing. Fruit are then loaded into ripening rooms and initiated to ripen.

ABSTRACTDuring a period of forty years, the author and his colleagues have developed a series of Theological (as distinct from chemical) tests to replace the subjective assessments of experts in various industries. In most cases, instrumental data correlated well with subjective judgements, but (so far as is known) only in one case is the Theological ...
