Animal–Plant Interactions Under Defaunation: Consequences for Amazonian Trees of Commercial Interest

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 2, March 2026.
We experimentally investigated the effects of medium‐ and large‐sized mammal defaunation on the removal and fate of seeds from economically important forest species in Amazonian forests. Our results show that mammal exclusion significantly reduced seed removal, although the magnitude of this effect varied among plant species.

Development and Psychometric Testing of the Breastfeeding Knowledge Scale (BKS) in Brazilian Healthcare Students

open access: yesJournal of Evaluation in Clinical Practice, Volume 32, Issue 2, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Rationale Breastfeeding is recognized as a cornerstone of maternal and child health, yet health professionals frequently report insufficient knowledge to provide effective support. Strengthening the evaluation of educational outcomes in health professions training is therefore essential to improve clinical practice and patient care. This study

A Prospective Multi‐Center Implementation Study to Improve the Diagnosis and Treatment of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo

open access: yesAcademic Emergency Medicine, Volume 33, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is the most common cause of vertigo, yet it remains underdiagnosed and undertreated in emergency departments (EDs). Despite evidence‐based guidelines recommending bedside diagnostic maneuvers (Dix‐Hallpike and supine roll test) and canalith repositioning maneuvers (CRMs), these are ...

Associations of physical activity with phase angle in adolescents living with HIV: The moderating and mediating roles of physical fitness

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, Volume 14, Issue 3, February 2026.
The graphical abstract illustrates the association between physical activity levels and cellular health in adolescents living with HIV (ALHIV). Cellular health was assessed using phase angle (PhA), derived from bioelectrical impedance analysis, a marker of cell membrane integrity and body cell mass.

Membrane Systems with External Control [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We consider the idea of controlling the evolution of a membrane system. In particular, we investigate a model of membrane systems using promoted rules, where a string of promoters (called the control string) “travels” through the regions, activating ...

Transcriptomic Responses of the Marine Diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum to High Carbon and Low Nitrogen Stress

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 1, January 2026.
To elucidate the integrated transcriptional mechanisms underlying diatom acclimation to coupled carbon–nitrogen (CN) imbalance, we employed RNA sequencing (RNA‐Seq) to characterize the global transcriptional response of the model diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum to high CO2 (~2000 μatm) and low nitrogen (10% of nitrogen concentration in f/2 medium ...
