Structural Eigenmodes of the Brain to Improve the Source Localization of EEG: Application to Epileptiform Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Geometry and connectivity are complementary structures, which have demonstrated their ability to represent the brain's functional activity. This study evaluates geometric and connectome eigenmodes as biologically informed constraints for EEG source localization.

Socially responsible investing returns: Evidence from South Africa, 2004-2012

open access: yesJournal of Economic and Financial Sciences, 2014
A number of researchers have sought to test the theoretical prediction of Modern Portfolio Theory that asserts that Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) under-performs conventional investing.

Mechanical Overloading‐Induced Nanomineral Crystal Perturbation from the Osteochondral Interface: A Potential Initiator of Osteoarthritis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Laser‐induced graphene (LIG) provides a scalable, laser‐direct‐written route to porous graphene architecture with tunable chemistry and defect density. Through heterojunction engineering, catalytic functionalization, and intrinsic self‐heating, LIG achieves highly sensitive and selective detection of NOX, NH3, H2, and humidity, supporting next ...

The Informational Dynamics of Mean‒Variance Relationships in Fertilizer Markets: An Entropic Investigation

open access: yesEntropy, 2018
The risk‒return trade-off is a fundamental relationship that has received a large amount of attention in financial and economic analysis. Indeed, it has important implications for understanding linear dynamics in price returns and active quantitative ...

Is there a Risk-Return Trade-off across Occupations? Evidence from Spain [PDF]

open access: yes
We use data from Spain to test for an effect of earnings risk and skewness on individual wages. We carry out separate estimation for men, women, public and private sector employees. In accordance with previous evidence for the US we show the existence of

Targeting Multiple Management Objectives in Sustainable Fisheries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Modern fisheries management must balance between return (economic value) and risk (harvest uncertainty and stock collapse). Management tools should target multiple simultaneous management objectives.

Discovery of an Adaptive Neuroimmune Response Driving Itch and Fast Tick Removal with Implications for Preventing Pathogen Transmission

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Itch‐induced tick removal (IITR): An acquired neuroimmune mechanism, itch‐induced tick removal, develops after repeated tick exposure, mobilizing T cells and macrophages at the tick bite site to trigger a rapid scratching response that facilitates timely tick removal within a critical window that precedes the transmission of many tick‐borne pathogens ...

Scalable Manufacturing of Roll‐to‐Roll Slot‐Die Coated Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Roll‐to‐roll (R2R) slot‐die coating is emerging as a scalable pathway for perovskite solar cells. This mini‐review summarizes advances in ink design, drying control, and electrode integration that enable high‐efficiency flexible devices and modules. Challenges in throughput, stability, and sustainable processing are outlined, guiding the translation of

Optimal Grazing Exclusion Duration to Enhance Soil Carbon Sequestration in Degraded Grasslands

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Across China, grazing exclusion reaches the national mean soil organic carbon recovery benchmark sooner in high‐MAP regions (> 500 mm), but recovery is much slower where MAP < 300 mm. Scaling this strategy to 70% of China's degraded grasslands would sequester about 1.52 Pg of soil carbon over 10 years—roughly 17% of annual global fossil‐fuel emissions.

The Educational Asset Market: A Finance Perspective on Human Capital Investment [PDF]

open access: yes
Like the stock market, the human capital market consists of a wide range of assets, i.e. educations. Each young individual chooses the educational asset that matches his preferred combination of risk and return in terms of future income.
