In the world of risk management, which encompasses the business continuity disciplines, many types of risk require evaluation. Financial risk is most often the primary focus, followed by product and market risks. Another critical area, which typically lacks a thorough review or may be overlooked, is operational risk. This category encompasses many risk

A controversy over cancer risk has undermined trust in the scientific basis of regulation. Drinking water and pesticide programs are in chaos because "potential cancer risk" cannot produce practical standards. The risk controversy involves a dispute over the most fundamental scientific standards, namely what is and what is not a positive result.

Summary Whether it is a computer printout or a hand-checked list, the cancer risk profile provides the nurse with valuable data for teaching patients about cancer risk factors of personal interest. It can also be an effective patient motivator; it may help the patient make personal health choices that will minimize his risk of cancer; and it may ...

Estimates of the health risks in humans from low-level exposure to tritium are presented. The health risks considered are those for cancer, genetic effects, and developmental abnormalities from exposures in utero. Because direct risk information for these effects is not available from human exposures to tritium, the following approach was used.

In the United States the hazards posed by chemicals are often enormously exaggerated. In "calculating" risks of human cancer and establishing regulations, the United States Environmental Protection Agency makes a series of "conservative" assumptions that have no sound scientific basis. In consequence, trillions of dollars could be wasted. Exaggerations
