The prevalence of the co-occurrence of risky behaviors and association with socioeconomic status in Iran: a latent class analysis

open access: yesBMC Public Health
Background This study aimed to identify distinct population classes with different risk profiles using Latent Class Analysis (LCA) in Iran, as well as, to evaluate the association between various classes of risky behavior and Socio -Economic Status (SES)

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Therapeutic strategies for MMAE‐resistant bladder cancer through DPP4 inhibition

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We established monomethyl auristatin E (MMAE)‐resistant bladder cancer (BC) cell lines by exposure to progressively increasing concentrations of MMAE in vitro. RNA sequencing showed DPP4 expression was increased in MMAE‐resistant BC cells. Both si‐DPP4 and the DPP4 inhibitor sitagliptin suppressed the viability of MMAE‐resistant BC cells.

Increases in risk and demand for risky asset [PDF]

open access: yes
n this paper, we examine the effect of a decrease in risk on the demand for risky asset in the standard portfolio problem. We introduce a new class of dominance, that we name relative order and we prove that this class of dominance is consistent both ...

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

A Comparative Analysis of Green and Brown Stocks: The Impact of Uncertainty Indices on Tail-Risk Forecasting

open access: yesForecasting
This paper examines whether climate, geopolitical and economic policy uncertainty indices improve Value-at-Risk (VaR) and Expected Shortfall (ES) forecasts for green and brown stocks.

Probability of ruin for a dependent, two-dimensional poisson process [PDF]

open access: yes
A two-dimensional, dependent Poisson risk process is investigated in the paper. Claims are divided into two classes. Within each class claims have the same distribution, but claims belonging to different classes can have different distributions and the ...

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Empirical entropy, minimax regret and minimax risk

open access: yes, 2017
We consider the random design regression model with square loss. We propose a method that aggregates empirical minimizers (ERM) over appropriately chosen random subsets and reduces to ERM in the extreme case, and we establish sharp oracle inequalities ...
