WOMEN AND BOTANY IN RISORGIMENTO ITALY [PDF]
The first Italian women described as botanists by their male peers were active during the Risorgimento. They were few in numbers and only one of them, Elisabetta Fiorini, was recognized for her extensive contributions to the field of cryptogams in Italy by being nominated to important Italian scientific academies.

Ammonia borane is considered a great hydrogen carrier, and when hydrolyzed, it can generate 3 moles of H2. This study highlights the combination of experimental and computational work, such as modeling and statistical analysis, that enables future experimentation by focusing on the parameter with the most profound effect on maximum H2 yield.

Capping agents not only control nanoparticle size and shape in sol‐immobilization synthesis, but they also influence catalytic activity dependent on the synthesis solvent applied. The interaction between Pd nanoparticles, water or methanol, and PVA are described using 13C solid state NMR, revealing varied layering, mobility, and tacticity of PVA on Pd ...

In Situ Monitoring of Mechanofluorescence in Polymeric Nanofibers
Mechanochromic polyurethane fibers containing a mechanofluorescent additive are produced. The influence of additive concentration and fiber orientation on mechanochromism under tensile deformation is elucidated using in situ fluorescence spectroscopy and microscopy.

Political Economy of Renewables Capitalism: Moving beyond ‘Climate Change’ vs ‘System Change’
ABSTRACT There is a growing tendency to argue that the capitalist mode of production is fundamentally incompatible with climate stability and that ‘system change’ is needed to prevent apocalyptic ‘climate change’. This position overstates capitalism's dependence on fossil fuels.

Reported is a novel sulfonium salt reagent that enables a homologative dielectrophilic activation strategy for unactivated alkenes, thus providing a route to products featuring versatile heteroatom handles in a 1,3‐relationship. The approach is based on the generation of a transient one‐carbon‐elongated 1,3‐iodo‐sulfonium intermediate, which reacts ...
