Realistic Representation, Dynamic Evolution and Determinants of Institutional Quality in China

open access: yesInternational Studies of Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The paper delves into the role of institutional quality in bolstering China's economic resilience post‐COVID‐19, CITIC‐Entropy. It divides institutions into basic and changeable categories, establishing an index system via the CITIC‐Entropy TOPSIS model.

Holocene vegetation change and fire–plant diversity shifts in Mediterranean France

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Changes in fire activity are recognized as a major threat to biodiversity and vegetation communities across the Mediterranean Basin. However, long‐term fire–vegetation interactions remain poorly investigated. Here, we combine a high‐resolution charcoal record with pollen data from the “Étang des Aulnes” lake (southern France) to reconstruct ...

Living on the edge: Habitat characteristics of northern myotis at the periphery of its distribution

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
Northern myotis selected tall trees with minimal decay, in patches with other roosting options. In our study area, these trees occurred in narrow bands within an agricultural matrix, differing from contiguous forest at the core of the species' distribution. Nevertheless, bats selected the tallest trees in the densest patches available.

Trade‐Offs and Synergies in Cultivated Land Multifunctionality and Zoning Management in the Dongting Lake Region: A Multiscale Analysis

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Understanding the multiscale patterns and interactions of cultivated land multifunctionality is important for conservation, governance, and agricultural spatial optimization in the Dongting Lake region. Using 2020 data, we evaluated economic production (EPF), social security (SSF), landscape‐based recreation (LRF), and ecological maintenance ...

Remote sensing and citizen science for habitat mapping: A machine learning approach to lowland heathland in Surrey, UK

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract In a time of extensive global biodiversity loss, conservation efforts increasingly rely on high‐resolution, accurate, up‐to‐date habitat maps to guide decision‐making and strategic interventions. Many products have been developed in response, using machine learning (ML) methods to automate habitat classification, often relying on satellite ...

Remaking place relations for social‐ecological restoration: Reflections on placemaking in South Africa

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract Ecological restoration is an ongoing relational process involving interconnected reciprocal social and biophysical interactions that shift and change over time and space. Conceptual literature proposes that placemaking can deepen and enhance the understanding and implementation of social‐ecological restoration processes as part of broader ...

An extinction‐emergency metacollection: Maximising future recovery options for Rhodomyrtus psidioides (Myrtaceae), threatened by Myrtle Rust

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
A challenge for wild plant conservation is the rising incidence of plant pathogens that are difficult to interdict, contain and manage. Invasive, fast‐moving, broad‐spectrum pathogens impose societal costs through losses of intrinsically valuable wild biodiversity, ecosystem function, current and potential genetic and biological assets, culturally ...

Remote Sensing and GIS-Based Assessment of Riverbank Erosion, Deposition, and Channel Migration: A Case Study in Tarim River’s Xinqiman–Kelelik Mainstem

open access: yesApplied Sciences
To investigate the erosion and deposition evolution characteristics of the Xinqiman–Kelelik reach along the main stem of the Tarim River, this study analyzed river channel dynamics and planform morphological changes using Landsat satellite imagery (1993 ...
