Root‐focused resistance in chicory reduces defenses in leaves, impairing root aphids but enhancing foliar aphid performance. Selecting root resistance can create unintended trade‐offs across plant organs. Abstract BACKGROUND Plants are constantly exposed to a wide range of herbivores at both aboveground (AG) and belowground (BG) levels, involving ...

UCanWBGT: urban street canyon heat stress calculation for weather and climate models
This work introduces UCanWBGT, a new model to calculate wet‐bulb globe temperature in an urban environment, suitable for use with weather and climate model data. We present the model, then verify its performance against observations made in the streets of Paris during heatwave conditions.

State‐of‐the‐art, convection‐permitting NWP models reproduced the main features of the October 22–23, 2019 heavy precipitation event in Catalonia. However, slight configuration changes yielded varying streamflow responses and statistical performance, highlighting the challenge of simulating these events in Mediterranean medium‐sized basins ...

This article demonstrates that assimilating machine‐learning‐derived surface nitrate can improve five‐day phytoplankton forecast substantially within the Met Office operational system for the Northwest European Shelf. We explain the reasons behind this improvement and propose that an online system where machine learning and data assimilation are cycled

Near‐resonant excitation of the Adriatic barotropic modes: The seiche events of December 2019
This study examines severe flooding in the northern Adriatic Sea in December 2019, which existing forecasting systems failed to predict. Analysis of wind and sea‐level data, alongside reanalysis datasets and a high‐resolution hydrodynamic model, revealed a wind‐induced resonance mechanism.
