Grid mapping of river discharge

Journal of Hydrology, 1995
Abstract This paper summarises methods for creating maps of river discharge, and evaluates them using river flow data from Europe. Most published maps are isoline maps, but choropleth maps are more appropriate for showing the spatial distribution of river flow. Five approaches to producing grid choropleth maps can be identified.

Acoustic Measurement of River Discharge

Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 1989
This paper presents a new moving‐boat method for rapidly measuring river discharge using an acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP). The method uses an ADCP to measure current profiles and boat velocity along transects across a river. Measurements from the River Elbe, near Hamburg, Germany, are presented to illustrate the method and its associated ...

Estimating groundwater discharge to rivers from river chemistry surveys

Hydrological Processes, 2012
AbstractEnvironmental tracer methods have been used to quantify groundwater discharge to rivers for the past few decades. A number of different tracers have been used in these studies, including individual ion concentrations, electrical conductivity, stable isotopes 2H and 18O, and the dissolved gases helium, chlorofluorocarbons and radon.

River Discharge to the Coastal Ocean

2011
Rivers provide the primary link between land and sea. Utilizing the world's largest database, this book presents a detailed analysis and synthesis of the processes affecting fluvial discharge of water, sediment and dissolved solids. It also discusses the ways in which climatic variation, episodic events and anthropogenic activities – past, present and ...

Posterior predictions on river discharges

2009
The late Jan van Noortwijk (JvN) made valuable contributions in many areas such as Reliability, Risk management, Maintenance modelling, Applications to Decision theory and more. His contributions to model river discharges for flood prevention (van Noortwijk et al., [1, 2] and others) are of interest to forecast river stream flow.
