Ice in reservoirs and regulated rivers
International Journal of River Basin Management, 2020In a river with seasonal ice covers, river ice effects must be considered in the design and operation of water control structures such as dams, barrages, and spillways.

The formation of lake and river ice is inevitable in northern environments. In many areas it brings shipping and transportation on inland waterways to a standstill for several months every year. More precise knowledge of ice thickness and extent can be used to extend the shipping season or to warn of danger due to the presence of unexpected ice.

River Ice Dynamics and Ice Jam Modeling
2001This paper presents the formulation, numerical method, and field applications of a numerical model for dynamic transport and jamming of surface ice in rivers. The model considers the ice as a continuum. The internal ice resistance is described by a viscous-plastic constitutive law, in which the pressure term is formulated by modifying the Coulomb type ...
