Internal Waves on River Plumes
IGARSS 2018 - 2018 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2018We present results of observations of internal waves (IW) on the river plumes caused by the spread of the front of fresh waters, based on satellite images of the visible range obtained by Sentinel-2A Multispectral Imager Instrument (MSI/S2) and Landsat-8 Operational Land Imager (OLI/L8) instruments. Due to the high spatial resolution of these satellite

Plume-to-plume interactions in the Pearl River Delta in winter
Ocean & Coastal Management, 2019Abstract River plumes are important carriers of terrigenous materials being transported into coastal seas. Previous studies of river plumes focused on large and single river plumes and paid less attention to the plume-to-plume interactions among the small river plumes.

Frontal structure of a river plume
Journal of Geophysical Research, 1974Field observations are reported of the frontal structure found along the boundary of the Connecticut River plume in Long Island Sound. The hydrography and the horizontal current field were determined in the vicinity of the front. The front separates ambient saltwater on the surface from the light brackish water of the plume.

Numerical Characterization of the Douro River Plume
2019The Douro is one of the largest rivers of the Iberian Peninsula, representing the most important buoyancy source into the Atlantic Ocean on the northwestern Portuguese coast. The main goal of this study is to contribute to the knowledge of physical processes associated with the propagation of the Douro River plume. The general patterns of dispersion in

Modelling the Zambezi River plume
African Journal of Marine Science, 2015A model for the Zambezi River plume, the largest on the Indian Ocean coast of Africa, is presented and the results of experiments with different discharges and wind forcings are analysed. Although the river plays an important role in the southern African economy through power generation on large dams, artisanal fisheries, and frequent flooding events ...

Heterogeneities in salinity in a river plume
Estuarine and Coastal Marine Science, 1973Abstract Continuous and discrete measurements of salinity off the mouth of the Rhone River show the effects of wind induced mixing and of internal waves on the salinity structure. Vertical salinity changes of up to 25%‰ in 1 meter and internal waves with periods of two to three minutes were observed in the upper meter of the water column.
