River Terraces along the Upper Mabechi River

Formation of river terraces along the upper Mabechi River in northeast Japan is investigated tephrochronologically and its relation to piedmont gentle slope is discussed.Four terraces, that is, the Higher Terrace, Terrace I, Terrace II and Terrace III, are recognized in the study area.

Abstract Gravel with logs of wood at Rangitawa Stream, Wellington land district, that has been radiocarbon-dated at 3,000 years before present was previously correlated with the gravel of the Ohakea Terrace. Loess is absent above the gravel with logs, but about a foot of loess overlies typical Ohakea Gravel.

The well-preserved glacial record in Argentine Patagonia offers a ~ 1 Ma archive of terrestrial climate extremes in southern South America. These glacial deposits remain largely undated beyond the range of radiocarbon dating at ca. 40 ka.
