Responding to Riverbank Erosion in Bangladesh

Proceedings of the 1st ACM SIGCAS Conference on Computing and Sustainable Societies, 2018
In this paper, we examine riverbank erosion in Bangladesh, a crisis that affects millions of people, but has largely been overlooked in the ICT4D and crisis informatics literature. Through a two-month field study in four districts of Bangladesh, we explored how people managed the impacts of erosion.

Hydraulic erosion of cohesive riverbanks

Geomorphology, 2006
Abstract This study identifies and assesses the controls on hydraulic erosion of cohesive riverbanks on a 600-m reach of an urban ephemeral stream with active bank erosion. We examined hydraulic bank erosion by separating estimated bank shear stress into four properties: magnitude, duration, event peak, and variability.

Riverbank Erosion--A Case Study

Environmental & Engineering Geoscience, 1983
A field study of riverbank erosion was carried out during a 13-month period at five sites along the Ohio River near Louisville, Kentucky. The soils at the sites consisted of layered alluvium; the fraction of total bank height composed of sandy layers varied widely from site to site.

Permafrost slows Arctic riverbank erosion

Nature
The rate of river migration affects the stability of Arctic infrastructure and communities1,2 and regulates the fluxes of carbon3,4, nutrients5 and sediment6,7 to the oceans. However, predicting how the pace of river migration will change in a warming Arctic8 has so far been stymied by conflicting observations about whether permafrost9 primarily acts ...

A Dynamic Analysis of Riverbank Erosion

2020
The riverbank erosion is quite a common phenomenon with a high degree of complexity. Here, ‘Truncated Pyramid Model’ for the particle arrangement has been used considering hydrostatic force, pore pressure force, cohesive force and gravitational force acting on the particle.

Riverbank erosion and recession in the Ottawa area

Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 1979
Landsliding has been a major problem to property owners and developers along the Ottawa River and its tributaries. A study of aerial photographs of a section of the Ottawa River near Ottawa, taken over a period of nearly 50 years, has identified a cyclic relationship between the processes of erosion, landsliding, and riverbank recession.

Erosion of collapsed riverbank and interaction with channel

Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Water Management, 2017
After failure of a riverbank, a cohesive block of soil can temporarily lie at the toe of the bank until it is eroded away. To investigate the erosion of this collapsed block and its interaction with the river channel, a series of experiments was conducted under similar hydraulic conditions within a U-bend flume.

Impact of Riverbank erosion on Human life

Thematics Journal of Geography, 2019
The side portion of a course of river called riverbank. The area is always important to our human civilization for all kinds of development. But it is not so secure for various problems.  Riverbank erosion is one of the critical problems in the world at least in some countries. It has a long term consequences on human life.
