Epidemiology and Economic Burden of Sleep Disorders in Europe

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neurology, Volume 33, Issue 2, February 2026.
We investigated the epidemiology and costs of five major sleep disorders in Europe using systematic literature reviews, data harmonization, and imputation. Estimated adult prevalence was 18% for OSA, 10% for insomnia, 3% for RLS, 0.03% for narcolepsy, and 0.009% for RBD. In 2019, OSA had the highest economic impact in high‐income Europe (€184 billion),

Prevalence and Impact of Probable REM Sleep Behavior Disorder in Essential Tremor: A Multicenter Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neurology, Volume 33, Issue 2, February 2026.
In our cohort, probable REM sleep behavior disorder (pRBD) was identified in 11.6% of essential tremor (ET) patients, while a meta‐analysis yielded pooled prevalence estimates of 16% for pRBD and 14% for RBD. Compared to ET patients without pRBD, those patients with pRBD exhibited a higher frequency of midline tremor, rest tremor, and a significantly ...

Light regulates tomato fruit metabolome via SlDML2‐mediated global DNA demethylation

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, Volume 68, Issue 2, Page 383-405, February 2026.
In tomato growth and development, red and blue light signals are captured by the photoreceptors phyB2 and CRY1a, which kickstart tomato fruit ripening by activating HY5, which activates DNA demethylation via DML2 to trigger a metabolic and ripening transformation cascade within the tomato.

A Comparative Study of Polysomnography‐Derived Sleep Disturbance in People Living With Multiple Sclerosis Compared to Matched Controls From the General Population

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, Volume 35, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Sleep structure and sleep disorders were compared between people with multiple sclerosis (MS; n = 39) and age, sex, and BMI‐matched members of the general population (n = 39) using overnight polysomnography (PSG). Compared to population controls, people with MS had a higher prevalence of periodic limb movement disorder (PLMD; 59% vs.

First Observations and Characteristics of Positive Upward Illumination Strokes

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 1, 16 January 2026.
Abstract Upward Illumination (UI) strokes are a subtype of cloud‐to‐ground (CG) return strokes characterized by two concurrent branches striking the ground a few milliseconds apart. The luminous channel of an UI stroke does not connect to the main channel, which gives this phenomenon its name.
