Estimating Mean and Covariance Structure with Reweighted Least Squares [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Does Reweighted Least Squares (RLS) perform better in small samples than maximum likelihood (ML) for mean and covariance structure? ML statistics in covariance structure analysis are based on the asymptotic normality assumption; however, actual ...

Hopfield Neural Networks for Online Constrained Parameter Estimation With Time‐Varying Dynamics and Disturbances

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
This paper proposes two projector‐based Hopfield neural network (HNN) estimators for online, constrained parameter estimation under time‐varying data, additive disturbances, and slowly drifting physical parameters. The first is a constraint‐aware HNN that enforces linear equalities and inequalities (via slack neurons) and continuously tracks the ...

Restless Legs Syndrome: Would You Like That with Movements or Without?

open access: yesTremor and Other Hyperkinetic Movements, 2015
The restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a common sensorimotor condition that often results in discomfort and sleep disturbance. Diagnosis of RLS is entirely clinical and based upon a patient's description of subjective symptoms, and thus when considering RLS

Recombination Line vs. Forbidden Line Abundances in Planetary Nebulae

open access: yes, 2004
Recombination lines (RLs) of C II, N II, and O II in planetary nebulae (PNs) have been found to give abundances that are much larger in some cases than abundances from collisionally-excited forbidden lines (CELs).

Performance of adaptive bayesian equalizers in outdoor environments [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Outdoor communications are affected by multipath propagation that imposes an upper limit on the system data rate and restricts possible applications. In order to overcome the degrading effect introduced by the channel, conventional equalizers implemented

Review of Quality of Life Instruments for the Restless Legs Syndrome/Willis-Ekbom Disease (RLS/WED): Critique and Recommendations

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Sleep Medicine (JCSM), 2014
Over the last decade therapeutic, pathogenetic, epidemiological and genetic research in restless legs syndrome/Willis-Ekbom Disease (RLS/WED) has required the development of specific quality of life scales and sleep scales.

Local Thermal Conductivity Patterning in Rotating Lattice Crystals of Anisotropic Sb2S3

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Microscale control of thermal conductivity in Sb2S3 is demonstrated via laser‐induced rotating lattice crystals. Thermal conductivity imaging reveals marked thermal transport anisotropy, with the c axis featuring amorphous‐like transport, whereas in‐plane directions (a, b) exhibit 3.5x and 1.7x larger thermal conductivity.

Effects of an Unusual Poison Identify a Lifespan Role for Topoisomerase 2 in Saccharomyces Cerevisiae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
A progressive loss of genome maintenance has been implicated as both a cause and consequence of aging. Here we present evidence supporting the hypothesis that an age-associated decay in genome maintenance promotes aging in Saccharomyces cerevisiae (yeast)

Effects of Short- and Long-Term Variations in RLS Severity on Perceived Health Status – the COR-Study

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
In a cohort study among 2751 members (71.5% females) of the German and Swiss RLS patient organizations changes in restless legs syndrome (RLS) severity over time was assessed and the impact on quality of life, sleep quality and depressive symptoms was ...

Integrated Microfluidic Platform for High‐Throughput Generation of Intestinal Organoids in Hydrogel Droplets

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Organoid research offers valuable insights into human biology and disease, but reproducibility and scalability remain significant challenges, particularly for epithelial organoids. Here, we present an integrated microfluidic platform that addresses these limitations by enabling high‐throughput generation of uniform hydrogel microparticles ...
