Homologies in eukaryotic 5.8S ribosomal RNA
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1975Abstract The primary nucleotide sequence of Novikoff hepatoma ascites cell 5.8S rRNA (also known as 5.5 or 7S RNA) has been determined to be: This sequence is 75% homologous with the primary nucleotide sequence of yeast 5.8S rRNA and 100% homologous with oligonucleotide marker fragments from HeLa cell RNA.

Evolutionary origin of 5.8S ribosomal RNA
Nature, 1976IN prokaryotes, the genes for 5S, 16S and 23S ribosomal RNA are linked in a polycistronic transcriptional unit1,2. In eukaryotes, on the other hand, the analogous unit contains the genes for 5.8S, 18S and 28S rRNAs, whereas the 5S RNA genes are found elsewhere in the genome.

Eukaryotic ribosomes that lack a 5.8S RNA
Nature, 1986The 5.8S ribosomal RNA is believed to be a universal eukaryotic characteristic. It has no (size) counterpart among the prokaryotes, although its sequence is homologous with the first 150 or so nucleotides of the prokaryotic large subunit (23S) ribosomal RNA. We report here an exception to this rule.

Sequence homologies in mammalian 5.8S ribosomal RNA
Biochemistry, 1976Oligonucleotide products of complete pancreatic or T1 RNase digestion or partial T1 RNase digestion of HeLa cell (human) and MPC-11 cell (mouse) 5.8S rRNA are identical with those obtained from Novikoff hepatoma (rat) 5.8S rRNA except for minor differences at the termini.

Cytoplasmic methylation of mature 5.8 S ribosomal RNA
Journal of Molecular Biology, 1980Abstract Levels of 2- O -methylation were determined in ribosomal 5·8 S RNAs from whole cells and both the nuclear and cytoplasmic fractions of rat liver, rat kidney cells in culture (NRK) and HeLa cells. All 5·8 S RNA molecules contained the alkali stable Gm-Cp dinucleotide at position 77 but only whole cell rat liver RNA contained large amounts (0 ...
