Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra of yeast ribosomal 5S RNA have been acquired at several temperatures between 30 and 90 degrees C. The difference spectrum between 90 (bases unstacked) and 30 degrees C (bases stacked) provides a measure of base ...

Summary A specific binding test (incorporation into E. coli ribosomal subunits reconstituted from lithium cores and lithium supernatant) was used to assay the degree of structural homology between 5S RNA molecules from different origins. The two procaryotic molecules tested are recognized to some extent by the system, but none of the six eukaryotic ...

Separation of transfer RNA and 5S ribosomal RNA using capillary electrophoresis
Journal of Chromatography A, 1995Capillary gel electrophoresis and capillary electrophoresis using entangled polymer solutions was investigated for their applicability for the separation of low-molecular-mass RNAs (transfer RNA and 5S ribosomal RNA), with a size range of 70-135 nucleotides, from bacteria.

Reconstitution of 50S Ribosomal Subunits and the Role of 5S RNA
1973Bacterial 30S ribosomal subunits can be reconstituted from 16S ribosomal RNA and about 21 30S ribosomal proteins (1,2). The reconstituted 30S subunits have physical properties, protein composition, and functional capability almost identical to those of the original 30S subunits.

TFIIIA and p43: Binding to 5S Ribosomal RNA
2005TFIIIA and p43 are multifunctional zinc finger proteins that share a specific affinity for 5S ribosomal RNA. In this chapter I summarize over 25 years of research that highlights the similarities and differences in the RNA binding activity of these two proteins.
