Persistent hepatitis C virus infection in vitro: coevolution of virus and host. [PDF]
The virological and cellular consequences of persistent hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection have been elusive due to the absence of the requisite experimental systems.

RNA-Dependent RNA Polymerase in Nuclei of Cells Infected with Influenza Virus [PDF]
Nuclei purified from chicken embryo fibroblast cells infected with influenza (fowl plague) virus contain an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase. The in vitro activity of this enzyme is insensitive to actinomycin D, and is completely destroyed by preincubation with ribonuclease.

This study investigates an alternative approach to reactivating the oncosuppressor p53 in cancer. A short peptide targeting the association of the two p53 inhibitors, MDM2 and MDM4, induces an otherwise therapeutically active p53 with unique features that promote cell death and potentially reduce toxicity towards proliferating nontumor cells.

A Subgenomic RNA Associated with Cherry Leafroll Virus Infections
Cherry leafroll nepovirus (CLRV) genomic RNA 1 (8 kb) and genomic RNA 2 (7 kb) have 3' polyadenylate tracts and, extending 5' from the polyadenylate, nearly identical sequences of 1.6 kb termed the 3' common region. We observed RNAs 1 and 2 and a third RNA of 1.5 kb in nucleic acid extracts of CLRV-infected Nicotiana tabacum suspension cell protoplasts

Chronic TGF‐β exposure drives epithelial HCC cells from a senescent state to a TGF‐β resistant mesenchymal phenotype. This transition is characterized by the loss of Smad3‐mediated signaling, escape from senescence, enhanced invasiveness and metastatic potential, and upregulation of key resistance modulators such as MARK1 and GRM8, ultimately promoting

Assessment of viral RNA in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis using RNA-seq
Background Numerous publications suggest an association between herpes virus infection and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). These reports have employed immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization and/or PCR, which are susceptible to specificity ...

Determination of ADP/ATP translocase isoform ratios in malignancy and cellular senescence
The individual functions of three isoforms exchanging ADP and ATP (ADP/ATP translocases; ANTs) on the mitochondrial membrane remain unclear. We developed a method for quantitatively differentiating highly similar human ANT1, ANT2, and ANT3 using parallel reaction monitoring. This method allowed us to assess changes in translocase levels during cellular
