Functional interplay between RND efflux pumps and GacS in Pseudomonas aeruginosa

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology
Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic human pathogen that is ubiquitous in the environment. The environmental versatility of P. aeruginosa is often attributed to a large arsenal of active efflux pumps, low permeability of the outer membrane, and ...

Efflux pump-mediated resistance to new beta lactam antibiotics in multidrug-resistant gram-negative bacteria

open access: yesCommunications Medicine
The emergence and spread of bacteria resistant to commonly used antibiotics poses a critical threat to modern medical practice. Multiple classes of bacterial efflux pump systems play various roles in antibiotic resistance, and members of the resistance ...

Quantifying the Rate and Extent of Urbanization Effects on Vegetation Phenology in Mainland China

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Urbanization profoundly alters environmental conditions (e.g., temperature, artificial light at night (ALAN), and precipitation) that strongly influence vegetation phenology.

Molecular basis for multidrug efflux by an anaerobic RND transporter

open access: yes
Abstract Bacteria can resist antibiotics and toxic substances within demanding ecological settings, such as low oxygen, extreme acid, and during nutrient starvation. MdtEF, a proton motive force-driven efflux pump from the resistance-nodulation-cell division (RND) superfamily, is upregulated in these conditions but its molecular ...

Alternative Model for RND-Type Efflux Pump

open access: yes, 2016
RND (resistance-nodulation-division) transporters are found in several Gram-negative bacteria species. These proteins form a complex along with membrane fusion proteins and outer membrane factors. This complex acts as an efflux pump, transporting several different molecules directly from the cytoplasm to the extracellular medium.
