Fréchet-Distance on Road Networks

2011
As a measure for the resemblance of tracks in a network graph, we consider the so-called Freechet-distance based on network distance. For paths P and Q consisting of p and q consecutive edges, an O((p2+q2)logpq) time algorithm measuring the Freechet-distance between P and Q is developed.

Road recognition with a neural network

Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence, 1993
Abstract This paper presents a neural-network model that is capable of recognising roads in colour images of urban and rural road scenes. The network is trained to classify the visible objects in an image, given a set of hand-labelled examples. The two problems of segmentation and recognition are separated through the use of “ideal” segmentations ...

Noisy Road Network Matching

2008
Let $\mathcal{N}$ and $\mathcal{M}$ be two road networks represented in vector form and covering rectangular areas Rand R?, respectively, not necessarily parallel to each other, but with R? ? R. We assume that $\mathcal{N}$ and $\mathcal{M}$ use different coordinate systems at (possibly) different, but known scales.

Compression of Digital Road Networks

2007
In the consumer market, there has been an increasing interest in portable navigation systems in the last few years. These systems usually work on digital map databases stored on SD cards. As the price for these SD cards heavily depends on their capacity and as digital map databases are rather space-consuming, relatively high hardware costs go along ...

On Balanced Separators in Road Networks

2015
The following algorithm partitions road networks surprisingly well: i sort the vertices by longitude or latitude, or some linear combination and ii compute the maximum flow from the first $$k$$ nodes forming the source to the last $$k$$ nodes forming the sink.

Obstacles on the road to global networking

Computer Networks and ISDN Systems, 1993
Abstract Although many academic networks are organised primarily on a national basis, the flow of ideas has never recognised national boundaries. Whether they realise it or not, most researchers have access from their nearest computer to a huge global network, the Internet, connecting academic institutions and industrial research groups across the ...
