Road safety performance indicators for the interurban road network
Accident Analysis & Prevention, 2013Various road safety performance indicators (SPIs) have been proposed for different road safety research areas, mainly as regards driver behaviour (e.g. seat belt use, alcohol, drugs, etc.) and vehicles (e.g. passive safety); however, no SPIs for the road network and design have been developed. The objective of this research is the development of an SPI

Road Network Performance Measurements
2023Road Network Performance (RNP) impacts economic, ecological, and social sustainability. Nonetheless, models for road transport cost estimation often fail to account for the regional specificity of RNP. While the availability of suitable tools, data sources, and computational capacities to measure concrete RNP on a wide scale has steadily increased ...

Is road safety management linked to road safety performance?
Accident Analysis & Prevention, 2013This research aims to explore the relationship between road safety management and road safety performance at country level. For that purpose, an appropriate theoretical framework is selected, namely the 'SUNflower' pyramid, which describes road safety management systems in terms of a five-level hierarchy: (i) structure and culture, (ii) programmes and ...

Gravel Roads Surface Performance Modeling
Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2007Twenty gravel road study sections at 10 sites in north-central Wyoming were monitored from September 2005 through June 2006. Windshield or mobile, visual survey ratings of the sections and field measurements were taken weekly. Surfacing gravel samples were collected, and their gradations were determined.

Prediction of Road Marking Performance
Journal of Transportation Engineering, 2007From the road user's point of view the night-time visibility of road markings during wet conditions is of great importance, and instruments aimed for mobile measurement of the retroreflectivity of road markings are available. However, due to splash from the tires of the measuring vehicle, it is almost impossible to carry out measurements on wet road ...

Deicing Performance of Road Salt
Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2014This paper describes the results of a field study designed to quantify the effects of various factors on the snow-melting performance of salt. Many tests were conducted in a realistic environment over two winter seasons, covering more than 70 snow events, with temperatures ranging from −14°C to 3°C and snowfalls ranging from ∼0.2 to 21.0 cm.

Boosting performance of road infrastructure
Built Environment Project and Asset Management, 2011PurposeSingapore's land transportation is governed by a comprehensive set of rules, regulations, operations and systems to ensure its effectiveness and efficiency. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is the main agency in charge of road operations. Despite the LTA's best efforts, road related problems still surface every now and then.

Performance of Off-road Vehicles
2016Vehicle performance refers to the science of motioning of the vehicle in terms of transient performance (e.g. acceleration, braking, cornering) and those of steady-state performance criteria such as (power driveline losses, gross and net traction, vehicle aerodynamics).

Road Standards and Traffic Performance
Journal of Forestry, 1986The cost of constructing and maintaining transportation systems concerns foresters, public and private. In 1982, the USDA Forest Service budget for roads was $567 million. In 1985, the figure amounted to $613 million. A 1981 Forest Service directive called attention to problems arising because "roads are often built at too high a standard, which ...

Physiological Correlates of Female Road Racing Performance
Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, 1981Abstract The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between female distance running performance on a 10 km road race and body composition, maximal aerobic power ([Vdot]O2 max ), running economy (steady-state [Vdot]O2 at standardized speeds), and the fractional utilization of [Vdot]O2max at submaximal speeds (% [Vdot]O2max ).
