Engineering a Single Amino Acid Bionanozyme for Ultrasensitive Detection of Biomarkers: A WHO‐REASSURE‐ Aligned Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A unique 2D bionanozyme, engineered from a single amino acid and copper ions, demonstrates peroxidase‐mimicking catalytic activity. This efficient and simple bionanozyme allows for ultrasensitive, equipment‐free visual detection of key biomarkers in both test and real samples, meeting the WHO‐REASSURE standards for practical diagnostic applications ...

ROAD SAFETY IN NORTHERN IRELAND

open access: yesIATSS Research, 2002
Despite a low rate of car ownership, Northern Ireland experiences traffic fatalities and injuries at just below the EU average overall but exceeds that average for child fatality rates. It also has the highest rate of road traffic injury accidents per 100,000 population in the U.K.

Predictive Braking on a Nonplanar Road [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
We present an approach for predictive braking of a four-wheeled vehicle on a nonplanar road. Our main contribution is a methodology to consider friction and road contact safety on general smooth road geometry. We use this to develop an active safety system to preemptively reduce vehicle speed for upcoming road geometry, such as off-camber turns.

Rotating Liquid Marble Microreactors for Enhanced Enzymatic Reactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Dynamic magnetic liquid marbles (LMs), stabilized by hydrophobic magnetic proteinaceous colloidosomes, function as effective microreactors for enzymatic processes. Precise magnetic manipulation allows for the rotation of these LMs, enhancing the efficiency of the enzymatic cascade reaction both at the air/water interface and within biphasic enzyme ...

Shifting Death to their Alternatives: The Case of Toll Motorways. [PDF]

open access: yes
A renewed interest on the use of tolls for funding motorways and regulating their demands has been recovered in the last years. However, less attention has been put to the road safety effects derived from this policy. Although toll motorways show quality

Motorcycle safety research project: Interim summary report 3: training and licensing interventions for risk taking and hazard perception for motorcyclists [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Motorcycle trauma is a serious road safety issue in Queensland and throughout Australia. In 2009, Queensland Transport (later Transport and Main Roads or TMR) appointed CARRS-Q to provide a three-year program of Road Safety Research Services for ...

Comprehensive Si Anode Design for Sulfide‐Based all‐Solid‐State Batteries: Insights into Si‐Electrolyte Synergy for Mitigating Contact Loss

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Silicon anodes in sulfide‐based all‐solid‐state batteries suffer from interfacial instability caused by volumetric fluctuations and contact degradation, restricting their practical implementation despite high capacity. This study presents design strategies that leverage controlled active material expansion and an elastic recoverable anolyte to form an ...

Problems for Vulnerable Road Users in the Netherlands [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
INTRODUCTION In the Netherlands pedestrian and pedal cycle travel are important transport modes for the population. However, given the particularly vulnerable nature of these modes of transport, pedestrians and cyclists are involved in a large number ...
