Road traffic noise, noise sensitivity and psychological disorder

Psychological Medicine, 1993
SynopsisThe relationship between traffic noise exposure and psychological morbidity was assessed using the population-based Caerphilly Collaborative Survey of 2398 men from Caerphilly, South Wales. The findings showed that traffic noise exposure levels were strongly associated with annoyance to noise.

ROAD TRAFFIC NOISE INFLUENCED BY ROAD BUMPS

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2002
Noise levels from different kinds of vehicles were measured on streets close to road bumps. In comparison with free flowing traffic, the acceleration after road bumps increased peak noise levels from 1 to 13 dB (A) max. Although the results are of a pilot nature, it is suggested that noise consequences should be included in the planning of road bumps.

Long-term residential road traffic noise and mortality in a Danish cohort.

Environmental Research, 2020
Transportation noise is a growing public health concern worldwide and epidemiological evidence has linked road traffic noise with mortality. However, incongruent effect estimates have been reported between incidence and mortality studies.

Urban road traffic noise spatiotemporal distribution mapping using multisource data

, 2020
Many residents are disturbed by road traffic noise which needs to be controlled and managed. The noise map is a helpful and important tool for noise management and acoustical planning in urban areas.

Evaluation of road traffic noise exposure based on high-resolution population distribution and grid-level noise data

Building and Environment, 2019
The primary objective of this study is to propose a method for assessing population exposure to road traffic noise based on high-resolution population and grid-level noise data. First, after meshing the study region and setting the receivers at the nodes,

Road traffic noise, sleep and mental health

Environmental Research, 2014
This study examines the relationship between road traffic noise, self-reported sleep quality and mental health. The study is cross-sectional and based on data from a survey conducted in Oslo, Norway, in 2000. Psychological distress (Hopkins Symptom Checklist, HSCL-25) was measured along with self-reported somatic health, sleep quality, noise ...

Maximum noise levels in road traffic noise

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1988
Certain field investigations have shown that the correlation between the extent of annoyance due to road traffic noise and the noise dose expressed in leq is rather poor. A higher correlation was found when the expression of the noise dose was based upon the maximum noise level (mnl) from the single noisiest event. To determine the relation between leq

Factors responsible for road traffic noise annoyance in the city of Sfax, Tunisia

, 2020
This study sets out to investigate the principal acoustical and non-acoustical factors for road-traffic noise annoyance in Sfax, Tunisia. The depiction of these factors aims to better control the noise annoyance, which presents one of several public ...

Noise from complex road traffic

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1971
The noise from freely flowing traffic is calculated considering traffic mixes, numerous roads, barriers, and other influences that can be approximated by the superposition of contributions from statistically independent elements. The basic statistical parameters derived are the cumulants of the intensity distribution.

Road traffic detection using wireless noise sensors

2012 IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC), 2012
In this paper we present our experimental result of using wireless noise sensor network (WNSN) to detect road traffic. With the features implemented in our network such as multipoint measuring, synchronization, real-time data availability, and strict compliance of sound level meter (SLM) standard IEC 61672:2003, we assert the possibility of using WNSN ...
