Statistics of road traffic noise

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1971
Abstract Freely flowing traffic is modeled by randomly distributed sources on a line. Statistical parameters of the noise emitted from point sources of equal strength are derived in terms of the cumulants of the intensity normalized by its mean.

Effects of road traffic noise on the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases: The case of Thessaloniki, Greece.

Science of the Total Environment, 2019
Road traffic noise is a growing challenge for human health in the last decades. World Health Organization (WHO) summarized the scientific evidence on side effects of noise on public health and wellbeing since 1999 in its publication "Guidelines for ...

Prediction of Road Traffic Noise

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1972
A computer model for the prediction of noise from freely flowing road traffice is described. The model allows one to account for simple statistics of point sources (spatial distribution and radiated sound power) and for sound propagation with attenuation, diffraction, and reflection.

Three-dimensional virtual reality-based subjective evaluation of road traffic noise heard in urban high-rise residential buildings

Building and Environment, 2019
In this study, a new noise evaluation method is proposed in which virtual reality (VR) technology in the form of a head-related transfer function (HRTF) and a head-mounted display (HMD) is applied to assess the noise experienced inside residential ...

Road traffic noise

This chapter summarises the modelling frameworks utilised for predicting road traffic noise. Regressive and statistical are introduced, furthermore, an overview of the models and techniques for assessing single-vehicle noise emission is provided.

Frequency curves of road traffic noise

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1974
Based on statistical properties of the noise from freely flowing traffic on a long road, an approximate formula is derived for the distribution of sound pressure levels. Distribution functions calculated from this formula check well with examples of skew distributions evaluated from field measurements.

Noise from road traffic (interrupted flow)

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1977
An equation for predicting l10 levels in urban streets has been derived from an analysis of measurements made at 190 sites in Edinburgh and elsewhere. The validity of the equation has been confirmed by an analysis of 134 measurements made in Sheffield and Rotherham. This equation included traffic variables which are at present difficult to predict, and
