Confidence Intervals For An Effect Size When Variances Are Not Equal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Confidence intervals must be robust in having nominal and actual probability coverage in close agreement. This article examined two ways of computing an effect size in a two-group problem: (a) the classic approach which divides the mean difference by a ...

Can the buck always be passed to the highest level of clustering?

open access: yesBMC Medical Research Methodology, 2016
Background Clustering commonly affects the uncertainty of parameter estimates in epidemiological studies. Cluster-robust variance estimates (CRVE) are used to construct confidence intervals that account for single-level clustering, and are easily ...

One-Stage Multiple Comparisons with the Control for Exponential Median Lifetimes under Heteroscedasticity

open access: yesMathematics, 2020
When the additional sample for the second stage may not be available, one-stage multiple comparisons for exponential median lifetimes with the control under heteroscedasticity including one-sided and two-sided confidence intervals are proposed in this ...

Robust nonparametric inference for the median

open access: yes, 2005
We consider the problem of constructing robust nonparametric confidence intervals and tests of hypothesis for the median when the data distribution is unknown and the data may contain a small fraction of contamination.

Same or Different? Comparing the Coverage Rate of Five Different Approaches for Testing the Difference of Two Groups Means [PDF]

open access: yesTutorials in Quantitative Methods for Psychology
testing for statistically significant differences between two group means is one of the most common requirements in psychological research, for example, after an experiment has been conducted.

Optimal Bandwidth Choice for Robust Bias Corrected Inference in Regression Discontinuity Designs

open access: yes, 2020
Modern empirical work in Regression Discontinuity (RD) designs often employs local polynomial estimation and inference with a mean square error (MSE) optimal bandwidth choice.

Nonparametric Regression via StatLSSVM

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Software, 2013
We present a new MATLAB toolbox under Windows and Linux for nonparametric regression estimation based on the statistical library for least squares support vector machines (StatLSSVM).

Stacked survival models for residual lifetime data

open access: yesBMC Medical Research Methodology, 2022
When modelling the survival distribution of a disease for which the symptomatic progression of the associated condition is insidious, it is not always clear how to measure the failure/censoring times from some true date of disease onset.

Plasma lipidomic and metabolomic profiles in high‐grade glioma patients before and after 72‐h presurgery water‐only fasting

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Presurgery 72‐h fasting in GB patients leads to adaptations of plasma lipids and polar metabolites. Fasting reduces lysophosphatidylcholines and increases free fatty acids, shifts triglycerides toward long‐chain TGs and increases branched‐chain amino acids, alpha aminobutyric acid, and uric acid.

Negative log-binomial model with optimal robust variance to estimate the prevalence ratio, in cross-sectional population studies

open access: yesBMC Medical Research Methodology, 2023
Background Cross-sectional studies are useful for the estimation of prevalence of a particular event with concerns in specific populations, as in the case of diseases or other public health interests.
