Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Ultrathin bending sensor with ultrahigh robustness and reliability for robotic applications

open access: yesnpj Flexible Electronics
Soft bending sensors offer high sensitivity and a large deformation range, making them ideal for robotics and healthcare. However, existing sensors made from organic materials often fail under large tensile stresses and long-term bending, limiting their ...

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

An $hp$-Adaptive Newton-Galerkin Finite Element Procedure for Semilinear Boundary Value Problems

open access: yes, 2016
In this paper we develop an $hp$-adaptive procedure for the numerical solution of general, semilinear elliptic boundary value problems in 1d, with possible singular perturbations. Our approach combines both a prediction-type adaptive Newton method and an

Methylation biomarkers can distinguish pleural mesothelioma from healthy pleura and other pleural pathologies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed and validated a DNA methylation–based biomarker panel to distinguish pleural mesothelioma from other pleural conditions. Using the IMPRESS technology, we translated this panel into a clinically applicable assay. The resulting two classifier models demonstrated excellent performance, achieving high AUC values and strong diagnostic accuracy.

Robustness and Efficiency Considerations When Testing Process Reliability with a Limit of Detection

open access: yesMathematics
Processes in biotechnology are considered reliable if they produce samples satisfying regulatory benchmarks. For example, laboratories may be required to show that levels of an undesirable analyte rarely (e.g., in less than 5% of samples) exceed a ...

GPS baseline configuration design based on robustness analysis

open access: yesJournal of Geodetic Science, 2012
The robustness analysis results obtained from a Global Positioning System (GPS) network are dramatically influenced by the configurationof the observed baselines. The selection of optimal GPS baselines may allow for a cost effective survey campaign and a
