Spin glasses exhibit rock magnetism
Physica B+C, 1977Abstract The physical properties of spin glasses are briefly discussed in terms of magnetic clusters, their anisotropy and their blocking temperatures. It is shown that the susceptibility of spin glasses has a pronounced and asymmetrical peak at the blocking temperature while in general no pronounced specific heat anomaly is expected there.

Abstract Measurements have been made of the magnetic polarization of 450 specimens of basaltic lavas of the Deccan Trap taken from two sites about 500 miles apart. With the exception of some nearly randomly magnetized specimens, the main direction of magnetization is N. 155° E. and the dip is 53° downwards.

Rock Magnetism and Polar Wandering
The Journal of Geology, 1954Lava flows and other igneous rocks become magnetized in the direction of the local geomagnetic field when they cool down after their formation. Similarly, sediments acquire a weak magnetic polarization on deposition. The mean direction of magnetization of series of recent lava flows and sediments has been determined; it is found that these mean ...
