Numerical simulation of non-parallel double crack propagation and coalescence in rock specimen

open access: yes矿业科学学报, 2017
The study of crack propagation through the cracked rock specimen is an important research direction of rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering. In this paper, a single axis compression test of a class of rock samples with two non-parallel cracks is ...

Data‐driven forecasting of ship motions in waves using machine learning and dynamic mode decomposition

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
Summary Data‐driven forecasting of ship motions in waves is investigated through feedforward and recurrent neural networks as well as dynamic mode decomposition. The goal is to predict future ship motion variables based on past data collected on the field, using equation‐free approaches.

Multi-step Steady-State Measurements of Low Permeability Using Series Circuit with A Reference Rock Sample [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
A multi-step steady-state (MSSS) method is proposed here for the measurement of low permeability. This new method can accurately and easily measure very low permeabilities of rock samples using a new setup, where the targeted rock sample and ordinary apparatus components are connected with a reference rock sample to form a series circuit.

Activation of SIRT1 Reduces Renal Tubular Epithelial Cells Fibrosis in Hypoxia Through SIRT1‐FoxO1‐FoxO3‐Autophagy Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Hypoxia promotes the epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) of renal tubular epithelial cells via the SIRT1‐FoxO1‐FoxO3‐autophagy pathway, thereby resulting in the fibrosis of renal tubular epithelial cells. Activation of SIRT1 or induction of autophagy inhibits this process, alleviating hypoxia‐induced fibrosis.

Multifractal analysis of the pore space of real and simulated sedimentary rocks [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
It is well known that sedimentary rocks having same porosity can have very different pore size distribution. The pore distribution determines many characteristics of the rock among which, its transport property is often the most useful. Multifractal analysis is a powerful tool that is increasingly used to characterize the pore space.

Deep Mining: A Rock Engineering Challenge

open access: yesRock Mechanics and Rock Engineering, 2019
Increasing demand for metals caused by global economic growth and exploitation of shallow mineral deposits forces mineral extraction to go deeper. A direct consequence of this development is an increase in rock pressure-related mining problems.
