Emplacement of Venus' Crater Outflows as Impact Melt
Abstract Some of Venus' impact craters are associated with flow features that extend up to hundreds of kilometers from the crater rim, making these flows the longest crater outflows in the solar system. Various mechanisms of formation have been proposed including two end‐member hypotheses (the vapor cloud origin and the impact melt origin).

Laguna de Metztitlán (Hidalgo State, east-central Mexico) is a natural lake dammed by an unbreached, large-scale rock avalanche (sturzstrom) deposit (area: 2.5 km²; volume: ~0.6 km³; up to~400 m thick in the valley axis; horizontal runout distance: 2 ...

Beyond temperature: The environmental constraints of high‐mountain microrefugia
Cold spots in an alpine landscape often sit on poor, rocky, carbon‐low soils rather than well‐developed ground. As climate warms, alpine plants may find these cold refuges too harsh to colonize, since many depend on richer soils than nival and subnival species do.

Dynamic fragmentation characteristics of rock avalanches based on multi-source data synergism
Dynamic fragmentation is the process by which a rock mass continuously disintegrates during the high-speed movement of a large-scale rock avalanche, which significantly influencing the dynamic behavior of rock avalanche.

ABSTRACT Subaerial Pyroclastic Density Currents (PDCs) and Subaqueous Eruption‐Fed Density Currents (SEFDCs) produced during volcanic eruptions can present major hazards to surrounding communities and ecosystems. The bedforms deposited by these volcanic density currents can provide insights into the nature of transport and depositional processes, which

Particle-density segregation of rock–ice avalanche
Rock-ice avalanches occurring in cold high-mountains have super mobility and enormous destructive potential. They consist mainly of ice and gravel with different physical properties, particularly density, leading to segregation and impacting the flow ...
