Momentum transfer and friction in the debris of rock avalanches
Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 1989When a mass of loose, dry, purely frictional material slides down an incline after release at a given velocity, the runout (the distance the centre of gravity of the displaced mass moves from its initial position) depends on momentum transfer within the mass.

Prehistoric Rock Avalanches in the Olympic Mountains, Washington
Science, 1992Rock avalanches blocked streams in the Olympic Mountains southwest of Puget Sound during the past few thousand years. Limiting radiocarbon ages indicated that three or four of six avalanches occurred from 1000 to 1300 years ago or shortly thereafter. Most of the dates were from the outer preserved rings of trees drowned behind avalanche dams.

A Discontinuous Approach to the Numerical Modelling of Rock Avalanches
Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering, 2007The runout of dry rock avalanches produced by planar rockslides affecting a limestone formation with clayey interbeds is analysed by means of distinct element modelling. Potential and past rock avalanche events are described with reference to the geotechnical and structural conditions of the slope, typical of several Alpine valleys.
