Melanin content directly controls fungal spore mechanical properties, with pigmented spores achieving rupture forces two orders of magnitude higher than hyaline spores. Environmental stress drives this quantity‐quality tradeoff; stressed species invest energy in melanin‐reinforced, mechanically superior thick‐walled, super‐hydrophobic spores, while ...

A trimodal anode architecture spatially regulates silicon clusters within confined interstitial environments formed by graphite and contorted hexabenzocoronene. This confinement suppresses silicon aggregation and localized stress while enabling efficient Li‐ion transport, achieving high‐capacity, stable lithium‐ion batteries.

This review examines how cellular behavior is regulated by mechanical cues transmitted through soft biomaterials, from single‐cell mechanosensing to tissue‐level adaptation. It highlights why physiological relevance, rather than model complexity alone, is critical for translational mechanobiology and introduces a scoring framework linking material ...

Investigation into the effects of different rocks on rock cuttability by a V-type disc cutter
Abstract This paper is about to investigate the effects of different rock structural properties and a V-type disc cutter on rock cuttability. The cutter having 381 mm in diameter, 90° edge angle and 1.4 mm tip radius is selected for linear rock cutting tests.

Attenuation of light in different rock types and implications for rock surface luminescence dating
Abstract There is growing interest in rock surface burial and exposure luminescence dating for use in Quaternary science and in archaeology. Such methods have enormous potential both in increasing the range of sedimentary contexts that can be dated, and improving the accuracy and the precision of dating within those contexts.

A microfluidic device with magnetic microposts was used to assess platelet mechanobiology. The oscillatory actuation of posts with embedded iron particles was dampened by the dynamic stiffening of the platelet‐rich plugs. This stiffening process increased with applied load, but inhibiting platelet activation (ASA) or myosin contractility (blebbistatin)
