Synthesis of hafnium carbide (HfC) via one‐step selective laser reaction pyrolysis from liquid polymer precursor

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, EarlyView.
➢ A one‐step selective laser reaction pyrolysis (SLRP) technique was developed to rapidly synthesize hafnium carbide (HfC) from liquid polymer precursors. ➢ XRD and TEM confirmed the nanocrystalline structure of the HfC. ➢ The SLRP‐based process achieved up to 54% ceramic yield, 18% higher than furnace‐based methods.

Fiber-reinforced ceramic composites for Earth-to-orbit rocket engine turbines [PDF]

open access: yes
Fiber reinforced ceramic matrix composites (FRCMC) are emerging materials systems that offer potential for use in liquid rocket engines. Advantages of these materials in rocket engine turbomachinery include performance gain due to higher turbine inlet ...

From Bednets to Rocket Ships: Efficiency in the Long‐Term and Neglect for the Present

open access: yesJournal of Applied Philosophy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this article I develop an objection to Longtermism – the view that concern for the long‐term future is a moral imperative – that is often gestured at, but not fleshed out. I call this the Far‐Future Priority Objection: Longtermism may entail significant resource reallocation and systemic neglect of the worst off today.

The development of a post-test diagnostic system for rocket engines [PDF]

open access: yes
An effort was undertaken by NASA to develop an automated post-test, post-flight diagnostic system for rocket engines. The automated system is designed to be generic and to automate the rocket engine data review process.

Fluid thrust control system [PDF]

open access: yes, 1968
A pure fluid thrust control system is described for a pump-fed, regeneratively cooled liquid propellant rocket engine. A proportional fluid amplifier and a bistable fluid amplifier control overshoot in the starting of the engine and take it to a ...
