Characteristics of H2/air annular jet flames using multiple shear coaxial injectors

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2014
The heat transfer characteristics for the process tubes of a cracking furnace and the combustion chamber wall of a liquid oxygen/gas hydrogen rocket engine, both of which use multiple nozzles, are very important in terms of performance and safety.

Steam balloon concept for lifting rockets to launch altitude [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Launching orbital and suborbital rockets from a high altitude is beneficial because of e.g. nozzle optimisation and reduced drag. Aeroplanes and gas balloons have been used for the purpose. Here we present a concept where a balloon is filled with pure water vapour on ground so that it rises to the launch altitude.

Functionally Graded Oxide Scale on (Hf,Zr,Ti)B2 Coating with Exceptional Ablation Resistance Induced by Unique Ti Dissolving

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 10, March 13, 2025.
A functionally graded oxide scale comprising a dense top layer and an underlying fine‐grained layer with a grain size gradient forms on a multicomponent (Hf,Zr,Ti)B2 coating through Ti content optimization. The former is a superior oxygen barrier, and the latter ensures strain tolerance, collectively manifesting the coating's exceptional ablation ...

Model based IVHM system for the solid rocket booster [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2008
We report progress in the development of a model-based hybrid probabilistic approach to an on-board IVHM for solid rocket boosters (SRBs) that can accommodate the abrupt changes of the model parameters in various nonlinear dynamical off-nominal regimes. The work is related to the ORION mission program.

Liposomes as sustainable delivery systems in food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical applications

open access: yesJournal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, Volume 102, Issue 3, Page 547-568, March 2025.
Overview of liposome preparation methods and applications. Abstract Liposomes are artificial microscopic vesicles composed of phospholipid bilayers with the ability to encapsulate both hydrophobic and hydrophilic molecules, owing to the amphipathic nature of lipids.

Global entropy solutions to the compressible Euler equations in the isentropic nozzle flow for large data: Application of the modified Godunov scheme and the generalized invariant regions [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
We study the motion of isentropic gas in nozzles. This is a major subject in fluid dynamics. In fact, the nozzle is utilized to increase the thrust of rocket engines. Moreover, the nozzle flow is closely related to astrophysics. These phenomena are governed by the compressible Euler equation, which is one of crucial equations in inhomogeneous ...

Droplet Agglomeration in Rocket Nozzles Caused by Particle Slip and Collision [PDF]

open access: yes, 1967
Droplet Agglomeration in Rocket Nozzles Caused by Particle Slip and Collision. The development of the particle mass spectrum in a rocket nozzle is investigated under the assumption that droplet growth by collision and agglomeration is the dominant ...
