The Effect of Tip Design on Technological Performance During the Exploration of Earth, Lunar, and Martian Soil Environments

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper investigates the penetration performance of soil‐burrowing probes with different tip designs during shallow‐depth penetration in various media, including terrestrial soils (Hostun sand) and well‐characterized planetary soil simulants (LHS‐1 Lunar regolith simulant and MGS‐1 Martian regolith simulant).

A Discontinuous Galerkin–Finite Element Method for the Nonlinear Unsteady Burning Rate Responses of Solid Propellants

open access: yesAerospace
The unsteady combustion of solid propellants under oscillating environments is the key to understanding the combustion instability inside solid rocket motors. The discontinuous Galerkin–finite element method (DG-FEM) is introduced to provide an efficient

Modelling Rocket System Performance Parameters

open access: yesAcademy Journal of Science and Engineering, 2022
What distinguishes the rocket system from airbreathing engines is that the rocket carries its own propellants, fuel and oxidants.  The modern rocket was originally developed for ballistic missiles.

NUCLEAR ENERGY FOR ROCKET PROPULSION [PDF]

open access: yes, 1953
The results of a rocket vehicle study indicate that nuclearpowered rocket vehicles will be lighter than comparable chemically powered vehicles for vehicle velocities greater than 15,000 ft/sec with payload weights of 1000 to 10,000 lb, or for vehicle velocities greater than 7000 ft/sec with payload weights greater than 10,000 lb.

Adaptive Electromagnetic Manipulation via Smart Metasurface with Ultrasonic Spatial Sensing

open access: yesSmall Structures, EarlyView.
The authors present a smart metasurface platform capable of sensing multiple spatial parameters and manipulating electromagnetic waves adaptively based on external object status. Many interesting functions can be achieved, including automatic beam collimation, adaptive beam broadening, and object recognition and cloaking.

Structural and redundancy performance of power actuated fasteners as direct fastenings in fiber reinforced concrete

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract Currently, a wider development of modern concrete mixes in the construction industry is expected, such as concretes with alternative cement types and binders, recycled aggregates, but also concretes with dispersed fiber reinforcement to speed up our work in cutting greenhouse gases and making buildings last longer.

A Study on the Influence of Flight Parameters on Two-Phase Flow and Radiation in the Plume of Solid Rocket Motors

open access: yesAerospace
Based on a pre-constructed simplified chemical reaction mechanism for afterburning in exhaust plumes, this study integrates a gas–solid two-phase combustion flow model with numerical radiative transfer calculations to systematically explore the ...
