Rockfill Modulus and Settlement of Concrete Face Rockfill Dams

Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 2003
A method is presented for estimating the modulus of compacted rockfill in dams based on the particle size, unconfined compressive strength of the rock, compaction layer thickness, compactive effort, and the applied vertical stress. Also presented are methods for predicting the crest settlement and face slab deformation of concrete face rockfill dams ...

Rockfill Dams: Review and Statistics

Journal of the Power Division, 1958
This paper reviews present practices. It develops a definition, classification and terminology for such dams and for those using earth in addition to rock fill. It discusses the advantages of deck-type dams; also settlement and economy of rock-fill dams. In its appendix it lists rock-fill dams constructed in the United States and in foreign countries.

Shear strength of rockfill

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1981
A practical method for estimating the shear strength of rockfill is developed. The peak drained friction angle π(prime) is found to be closely related to that of rock joints. In both cases the values of π(prime) are dependent on sample size, stress level, surface roughness, and on the uniaxial compression strength of the rock.

Hydraulic Conductivity Of Rockfill

Journal of Hydraulic Research, 1978
Dimensionless equations for the hydraulic conductivity of crushed rock and river gravel have been developed on the basis of approximately 1250 permeameter tests. Experimental data of a number of researches were used in the correlations. Grain sizes varied from .55 to .79 mm and pore Reynolds numbers were in the range of .001 to 20,000.

High-Precision Measuring System for Internal Deformation Monitoring Pipeline of Rockfill Dams: Design and Validation

IEEE Sensors Journal, 2023
The monitoring of internal deformation in rockfill dams using preburied flexible pipelines is a promising technique; however, achieving precise measurements over a long-range pipeline is crucial and challenging.

Wave Motion in Rockfill

Journal of the Waterways, Harbors and Coastal Engineering Division, 1975
A mathematical model, coupling an external nonlinear wave and the resulting internal flow in a rockfill embankment with an impervious core is presented.

Progress in Rockfill Dams

Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, 1984
Karl Terzaghi, a major contributor to progress in embankment dams, made significant contributions to the understanding of properties of rockfill and to the improvement of design of the concrete-face rockfill dam. His contributions are noted and followed by a history of parallel development of earth core and concrete-face rockfill dams and the impact of

Tehri Rockfill Dam

Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division, 1975
The 260-m high rockfill dam of the Tehri Project in India is to be placed at a site that has complex geology. The dam foundation will be of highly jointed and sheared phyllitic rocks. The region is also seismically active. The design and construction problems examined are: (1) The location of the dam axis; (2) the dam section; (3) the approach to ...

Creep of Rockfill

1991
In geotechnical engineering, time-dependent settlement is normally associated with the process of consolidation. In this, settlement behaviour is determined by the rate at which water is able to flow from the voids under a hydraulic gradient, allowing particles to slide into a more compact arrangement.
