Binary Segmentation Algorithm Selection and Hyperparameters Optimization of Blasted Rock Image

open access: yesJournal of Engineering, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Due to the severe noise and complex texture of blasted rock, selecting an appropriate binary segmentation algorithm is essential. This study evaluates nine common local thresholding methods for segmenting blasted rock images, with a focus on hyperparameter optimization of the highly adaptable Phansalkar algorithm.

Particle breakage characteristics of rockfill materials and correction of Wan-Guo hardening rule

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2020
The particle breakage problem of super-high rockfill dams is a hot issue in the current researches. For the rockfill materials of the world's highest concrete faced rockfill dam, Shuibuya Dam, the consolidated drained tri-axial tests with the maximum ...

Research on Temperature Decomposition and Its Influence on Deformation of Rockfill Dams Based on Intelligent Algorithms

open access: yesStructural Control and Health Monitoring, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
The unclear impact of temperature on rockfill dam settlement and the lack of a solid basis for selecting temperature parameters in prediction models are problematic. These issues significantly limit the accuracy and applicability of deformation monitoring models for rockfill dams.

Long-term deformation characteristics of high concrete-faced rockfill dams under cyclic loading of water

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao
The long-term deformation of high concrete-faced rockfill dams is one of the key technical problems during their construction. Most studies have attributed the long-term deformation to rockfill creep, but the prototype monitoring data of some high ...

Study on breakage behaviour of original rockfill materials considering size effect on particle strength

open access: yesRock and Soil Mechanics, 2020
In high rockfill dam, particle breakage is one of the main factors that lead to dam deformation. However, because of the large size of the rockfill particles, the breakage degree of the prototype rockfill materials is difficult to be measured directly ...

Multi‐Sources and Modes‐Based Overtopping Risk Model for Gravity Dams Under Extreme Working Conditions

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 61, Issue 11, November 2025.
Abstract Addressing the limitations of traditional overtopping risk analysis methods, which either consider only a single failure mode or fail to accurately characterize the nonlinear characteristics of reservoir levels, this paper proposes a novel overtopping risk model for dams.

Supervised parameter updating of deformation analyses for rockfill dams using prior knowledge

open access: yesComputer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, Volume 40, Issue 26, Page 4583-4606, 7 November 2025.
Abstract Accurate and reliable numerical simulation is crucial for the safe construction and operation of infrastructure such as rockfill dams. Model parameter updating through inverse analysis based on monitoring data is key to improving analysis accuracy.

Effect of Normal and Shear Interaction Stiffnesses on Three-Dimensional Viscoplastic Creep Behaviour of a CFR Dam

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2018
Rockfill materials and foundation continuously interact with each other during lifetime of the rockfill dams. This interaction condition alters the viscoplastic behaviour of these dams in time.

State-dependent 3D multi-mechanism bounding surface model for rockfills

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2018
The rockfill materials have been widely used in the construction of rockfill dams due to their high strength, small deformation and strong permeability. The strength and deformation characteristics of the rockfill materials are essential prerequisites to ...

Influence of Mine Dewatering‐Effluent Cycling on Arsenic Loading in a Gold Mine Tailings Containment Area

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 61, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract The Giant Mine (1948–1999) generated 16 Mt of Au‐bearing mill tailings (2800 mg kg−1) originating from a mixture of flotation tailings (84.8 wt%), calcine residues (14.4 wt.%), and arsenic trioxide roaster waste (0.8 wt.%). A water treatment system for high As mine dewatering effluent has operated since the end of mine operations, with the ...
