Settings of ROCOF relays for islanding detection of wind turbine

2011 International Conference on Advanced Power System Automation and Protection, 2011
One of the most important methods in the field of anti islanding protection of wind turbine is rate of change of frequency (ROCOF). When a self-excitation induction generator is islanded, voltage and frequency will vary and in most cases, exceed from legal range that can be detected by voltage relays, frequency relays and ROCOF relays.

Loss-of-Mains Detection by Internet Based Rocof

open access: yes, 2008
This paper considers the enhancement of loss-of-mains detection by use of a differential rate-of-change-of-frequency relay to reduce nuisance tripping and improve sensitivity to small excursions in frequency. The telecommunications media which might carry the differential ROCOF signal are reviewed with a focus on channel latency, bandwidth and security.

Adaptive Frequency Estimation Method for ROCOF Islanding Detection Relay

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2020
Rate-of-change-of-frequency (ROCOF) is one of the most popular local islanding detection methods due to its simplicity and low cost. However, the method suffers from significant non-detection zone (NDZ) and experiences security issues due to non ...

Hybrid ROCOF Relay for Islanding Detection

Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology, 2021
Distributed generation (DG) is increasing in day to day life to meet the global energy consumption demand. One of the major problems with such DG is islanding. The islanding is caused in the grid connected system when a part of DG is disconnected from the main grid and continues to feed the load connected.

Is ROCOF measureable?

2018 IEEE Power & Energy Society Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference (ISGT), 2018
Rate of change of frequency is one of the parameters that a phasor measurement unit is expected to measure. Difficulty has been reported with the measurement, and whether or not it can even be measured in the real world has been questioned. Using a fitting algorithm, we show that with what seem like reasonable levels of harmonic distortion and noise on

Performance of ROCOF protection in microgrid

2015 5th International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation and Restructuring and Power Technologies (DRPT), 2015
Accompanying the fast development of DG system and more DGs connecting to the distribution system, some new problems appear in protection technique area about grid-connected DG system, among which islanding is a typical and major one. Unplanned islanding will bring many problems to the grid: It threatens the life safety of power line maintaining staff ...

Marginal improvement of AUFLS using ROCOF

2015 Australasian Universities Power Engineering Conference (AUPEC), 2015
This paper proposes a scheme that integrates rate of change of frequency (ROCOF) and under frequency (UF) elements to design more effective load shedding response. A new load block activation algorithm is also introduced that improves the overall load shedding (LS) performance.

Advanced ROCOF protection Of synchronous generator

ISGT 2011, 2011
The penetration of distributed generation (DG) in electrical power systems is rapidly increasing these days and more attention is drawn to maintaining a healthy distribution system. Islanding operation of DG is one of the biggest challenges. When Islanding occurs, the power supply from the main grid is interrupted which causes a problem when ...
