Clinical pharmacology and prescribing education: An updated medical school curriculum from the British Pharmacological Society

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, Volume 92, Issue 6, Page 1787-1808, June 2026.
Aims Prescribing is a complex, essential skill that doctors must acquire to practice medicine safely and effectively. The British Pharmacological Society has historically provided a core curriculum to guide clinical pharmacology and prescribing education in UK medical schools.

Microelectrode array scaled for human hippocampal slices

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, Volume 11, Issue 3, Page 777-786, June 2026.
Abstract Objective Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is characterized by recurrent seizures originating usually from the hippocampus, and approximately one‐third of TLE patients remain refractory to pharmacological interventions. Surgical resection offers a potential cure for refractory TLE cases, with approximately 70% achieving seizure freedom. Still, the

Sex Difference in Effect of the OPRM1 Gene A118G (rs1799971) Single‐Nucleotide Polymorphism on the Requirement for Postoperative Fentanyl in Japanese Patients Who Underwent Laparoscopic‐Assisted Colectomy

open access: yesNeuropsychopharmacology Reports, Volume 46, Issue 2, June 2026.
This study found that the OPRM1 A118G polymorphism was associated with sex‐specific differences in pain and opioid sensitivity among Japanese patients, highlighting a potential role of genotype‐by‐sex interaction in personalized pain management. ABSTRACT Background The A118G (rs1799971) single‐nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) of the OPRM1 gene, which ...

Comparison of intubating conditions between rocuronium with priming and without priming: Randomized and double-blind study

open access: yesIndian Journal of Anaesthesia, 2011
Background: Rocuronium produces faster neuromuscular blockade compared with other neuromuscular blocking drugs. It produces comparable intubating conditions to that of succinylcholine, but does not have the short intubation time of the latter.

Effectiveness and safety of rocuronium or nitroglycerin plus ropivacaine on pain during intravenous regional anesthesia: A double–blind randomized controlled trial

open access: yesJournal of Acute Disease
Objective: To compare the effects of adding rocuronium and nitroglycerin to ropivacaine in intravenous regional anesthesia (IVRA) on pain and hemodynamic parameters. Methods: This randomized controlled trial was done in 2023.

A comparative study to evaluate the optimum intubating dose of rocuronium bromide versus succinylcholine chloride as an ideal intubating muscle-relaxing agent

open access: yesAsian Journal of Medical Sciences
Background: Rocuronium bromide is a new amino steroidal neuromuscular blocking agent which is structurally related to vecuronium and its onset time and intubating conditions are comparable with succinylcholine and without the undesirable side effects.

Subparalyzing Doses of Rocuronium Reduce Muscular Endurance without Detectable Effect on Single Twitch Height in Awake Subjects

open access: yesAnesthesiology Research and Practice, 2019
Purpose. To test the hypothesis that a low-dose rocuronium acts mainly by means of reducing muscular endurance rather than by reducing momentary force. Methods.

Comparison of duration of action of cisatracurium and rocuronium during hypothermic cardiopulmonary bypass: A prospective randomized double-blind trial in cardiac surgery

open access: yesThe Indian Anaesthetists' Forum
Context and Aims: Intermediate-acting, nondepolarizing neuromuscular blocking drugs (NMBDs), such as cisatracurium and rocuronium, are commonly used in cardiac surgery. Pharmacokinetics of NMBD alters with hypothermia.

Evaluation of intubating conditions after rocuronium bromide in adults induced with propofol or thiopentone sodium

open access: yesJournal of Anaesthesiology Clinical Pharmacology, 2011
Aim: The aims of present study were to compare the propofol and rocuronium with thiopentone and rocuronium in terms of clinically satisfactory intubating conditions and to co-relate intubating conditions with degree of paralysis in adductor pollicis ...

Infusion dose requirement of rocuronium in patients on phenytoin therapy – A prospective comparative study

open access: yesIndian Journal of Anaesthesia, 2017
Background and Aims: Patients with intracranial tumour are usually on anticonvulsants. Patients on phenytoin therapy demonstrate rapid metabolism of nondepolarising muscle relaxants secondary to enzyme induction.
