Rod Monochromatism (Achromatopsia)
2018Rod monochromatism (achromatopsia) is a congenital cone photoreceptor disorder, which is rare, affecting about 1 in 30,000 individuals. These patients have normal rod function but no detectable cone function; therefore, everything they see is in shades of gray (total color blindness).

Abundant Nuclear Rods in Adult-Onset Rod Disease
Journal of Neuropathology & Experimental Neurology, 1975Abundant, highly organized, rod-shaped particles have been found in skeletal-muscle nuclei of two patients with adult-onset rod disease. They were usually single in affected nuclei. Like myofibrillar rods, the nuclear rods consisted of bundles of long, parallel, apparently cross-linked filaments.

In this chapter we discuss a Cosserat-type theory of rods. Cosserat-type rod theories are based on the consideration of a rod base curve as a deformable directed curve, that is a curve with attached deformable or non-deformable (rigid) vectors (directors), or based on the derivation of one-dimensional (1D) rod equations from the three-dimensional (3D ...

Waves in Rods, Vibrations of Rods
1985Static forces and static deformations have been considered in the previous chapter. If, however, an elastic body is under the action of a force varying in time, different types of waves can arise in this body. Each type of wave can transfer disturbances from one part of the body to the other at a finite speed.
