Mapping global risk of bat and rodent borne disease outbreaks to anticipate emerging threats

open access: yesScientific Reports
Future epidemics and/or pandemics may likely arise from zoonotic viruses with bat- and rodent-borne pathogens being among the prime candidates. To improve preparedness and prevention strategies, we predicted the global distribution of bat- and rodent ...

Animal Models of Metabolic Disorders in the Study of Neurodegenerative Diseases: An Overview

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2021
The incidence of metabolic disorders, as well as of neurodegenerative diseases—mainly the sporadic forms of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease—are increasing worldwide.

Targeting the EpCAM‐AXL axis to overcome drug resistance in lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Lung cancer cells often evade therapy by hijacking signaling pathways. We reveal that cleaved EpCAM (sEpCAM) stabilizes the oncogenic protein AXL, driving NF‐κB and STAT3‐mediated chemoresistance. This EpCAM‐AXL axis identifies a high‐risk patient subset with poor prognosis.

Knowledge, risk perceptions and practices regarding rodents and their associated pathogens: environmental consultants in Chile

open access: yesOne Health Outlook
Background Rodents play essential ecological roles but are also significant reservoirs of zoonotic pathogens, posing risks to humans. Individuals with frequent occupational contact with rodents face an elevated risk of exposure to rodent-borne diseases ...

A Remote Monitoring System for Rodent Infestation Based on LoRaWAN

open access: yesSensors, 2023
Rodent infestations are a common problem that can result in several issues, including diseases, damage to property, and crop loss. Conventional methods of controlling rodent infestations often involve using mousetraps and applying rodenticides manually ...

Rodent genetic models of Huntington disease

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2008
Huntington disease (HD) is a dominantly inherited human neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor deficits, cognitive impairment, and psychiatric symptoms leading to inexorable decline and death. Since the identification of the huntingtin gene and the characteristic expanded CAG repeat/polyglutamine mutation, multiple murine genetic models and ...

Treatment with KCL‐286, a first‐in‐class retinoic acid receptor‐β (RARβ) agonist, ameliorates neuronal DNA damage and inflammation in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Repair of neuronal DNA damage in Alzheimer's disease by KCL‐286. (A) Amyloid‐β oligomers and plaques impair neuronal DNA repair pathways, leading to DNA double‐strand breaks and glial activation. (B) KCL‐286 activates RARβ/RXR signalling via retinoic acid response elements (RAREs), associated with increased BRCA1 expression, enhanced DNA repair and ...

Rodent-Borne Parasites and Human Disease: A Growing Public Health Concern

open access: yesAnimals
Rodents are among the most widespread mammals globally and serve as critical reservoirs for a wide array of zoonotic parasites that significantly impact human health.

Use of large animal models to investigate Huntington's diseases

open access: yesCell Regeneration, 2019
Animal models that can mimic human diseases are the important tools for investigating the pathogenesis of the diseases and finding a way for treatment.

Metagenomic analysis of viromes in tissues of wild Qinghai vole from the eastern Tibetan Plateau

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Rodents are natural reservoirs of diverse zoonotic viruses and widely distributed on the Tibetan Plateau. A comprehensive understanding of the virome in local rodent species could provide baseline of viral content and assist in efforts to reduce the risk
