9‐Deoxymuzigadial, a Sesquiterpene Isolated From Drimys brasiliensis (Winteraceae), Displays Reduced Cytotoxicity In Vitro and Modulates Leukocyte Activity and Fibrogenesis In Vivo

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT The aims of this study were to investigate in vitro cytotoxic potential and the effects of daily administration during the inflammatory response induced by sponge implants in mice of the sesquiterpene 9‐deoxymuzigadial (9‐DOM), isolated from Drimys brasiliensis (Winteraceae).

A higher-taxon approach to rodent conservation priorities for the 21st century

open access: yesAnimal Biodiversity and Conservation, 2007
Aproximación a nivel de suprataxón de las prioridades de conservación de roedores en el siglo XXI Aunque los roedores no figuren entre los mamíferos con mayor amenaza de extinción, existen pruebas históricas que demuestran la vulnerabilidad de diversos ...

Ecologic Traits Analysis for Identifying Rodent Hosts for Arenavirus and Hepacivirus in the Americas

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 57, Issue 6, November 2025.
Over half of emerging human pathogens originate from wildlife, with rodents serving as key zoonotic hosts. This study used ecological trait‐based models to identify rodent traits associated with arenavirus and hepacivirus infections and detect potential host species across the Americas, our models achieve high predictive accuracy (AUC = 0.92–0.96).

Assessing the palatability of different meats consumed in a biodiversity hotspot to inform alternative protein interventions

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 39, Issue 4, August 2025.
Abstract Alternative protein interventions are common in conservation. They aim to reduce the hunting or consumption of wildlife by promoting substitutes. However, selecting suitable meat substitutes is challenging because many factors drive wild meat consumption. Palatability, one such factor, drives consumer food preference and is potentially crucial

Transcriptomic profiling of dorsal root ganglia in atopic and healthy dogs: A comparative RNA sequencing study with implications in cutaneous itch research

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 36, Issue 4, Page 401-411, August 2025.
Background – Itch is a common symptom in skin disorders. While the neural pathways of itch transmission from the skin to the brain are well‐understood in rodents, the same pathways in dogs remain unclear. The knowledge gap hinders the development of effective treatments for canine itch‐related disorders.
