A Survey of Role Mining

ACM Computing Surveys, 2016
Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) is the most widely used model for advanced access control deployed in diverse enterprises of all sizes. RBAC critically depends on defining roles, which are a functional intermediate between users and permissions. Thus, for RBAC to be effective, an appropriate set of roles needs to be identified.

On the definition of role mining

Proceedings of the 15th ACM symposium on Access control models and technologies, 2010
There have been many approaches proposed for role mining. However, the problems solved often differ due to a lack of consensus on the formal definition of the role mining problem. In this paper, we provide a detailed analysis of the requirements for role mining, the existing definitions of role mining, and the methods used to assess role mining results.

Role mining with ORCA

Proceedings of the tenth ACM symposium on Access control models and technologies, 2005
With continuously growing numbers of applications, enterprises face the problem of efficiently managing the assignment of access permissions to their users. On the one hand, security demands a tight regime on permissions; on the other hand, users need permissions to perform their tasks.

An incremental algorithm for the role mining problem

Computers and Security, 2020
Abstract The role mining process, i.e., computing minimal set of roles from a user-permission assignment relation, is rather incremental task. In a usual situation the set of roles is already established, and the existing permissions are evolved according to current needs.

Role Mining: Survey and Suggestion on Role Mining in Access Control

2020
With the increasing attacks of Network, various security defense mechanisms especially access control mechanism have become research hot-spots, in which Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) as one of the most popular mechanisms has been applied in many fields.

A simple role mining algorithm

Proceedings of the 2010 ACM Symposium on Applied Computing, 2010
Complex organizations need to establish access control policies in order to manage access to restricted resources. Role Based Access Control paradigm has been introduced in '90 years aiming at simplifying the management of centralized access control. The definition of a good set of roles in order to match the organizational requirements of a company is

Role Mining with Missing Values

2016 11th International Conference on Availability, Reliability and Security (ARES), 2016
Over the years several organizations are migrating to Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) as a practical solution to regulate access to sensitive information. Role mining has been proposed to automatically extract RBAC policies from the current set of permissions assigned to users.

Towards Automated Assistance for Mined Roles Analysis in Role Mining Applications

2012 Seventh International Conference on Availability, Reliability and Security, 2012
The use of role engineering has grown in importance with the expansion of highly abstracted access control frameworks in organizations. In particular, the use of role mining techniques for the discovery of roles from previously deployed authorizations has facilitated the configuration of such frameworks. However, the literature lacks from a clear basis

Role mining based on weights

Proceedings of the 15th ACM symposium on Access control models and technologies, 2010
Role mining from the existing permissions has been widely applied to aid the process of migrating to an RBAC system. While all permissions are treated evenly in previous approaches, none of the work has employed the weights of permissions in role mining to our knowledge, thus providing the motivation for this work.
