An Analysis of the Strip Deformation and Thermal Variations in the Roll Bite for Flat Rolling
Recent Advances in Heat Transfer and Micro-Structure Modelling for Metal Processing, 1995Abstract This paper presents an analysis of the strip deformation for flat rolling, which is coupled with a heat transfer analysis in the roll bite. From the thermal model, the strip temperature distribution in the deformation zone is estimated.

The dynamic torque decrease of the rolling stand electric drive for metal biting
2017 IEEE Conference of Russian Young Researchers in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EIConRus), 2017The causes of impact load, which occur in the moment metal biting on hot plate mill, were considered in the article using an example of rolling stand of plate mill 5000 OJSC “Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works”. The methods of dynamic torque limiting were proposed.

In modeling of hot rolling pass schedules the heat transfer phenomena have to be known. Radiation to ambient, between rolls and a steel slab as well as heat transfer in contacts must be considered to achieve accurate temperature distribution and thereby accurate material behavior in simulations. Additional heat is generated by friction between the slab

Finite Element Simulation of Biting Process of Cold Rolling Strip for 6-High Mill
Materials Science Forum, 2011In this work, On the basis of software ANSYS/LS-DYNA, the strip cold rolling simulation model was established. The process from biting to rolling steady were simulated and investigated for 6-high UCM (6-high middle rolls shift type HC-mill with middle roll bender) cold mill, including the stress, stain state, and velocity field of the workpiece and ...

Heavy reductions by means of ‘non-bite’ rolling, including some observations on workpiece shape
Journal of Mechanical Working Technology, 1986Abstract If a rolling mill is equipped with gauge control, making it possible to decrease the roll gap during rolling, ‘non-bite’ rolling can be carried out; for this process, heavier reductions per pass are available than in conventional reversible rolling.

Advanced roll bite models for cold and temper rolling processes
2015This paper describes on-going efforts made to develop a fast and robust roll bite model for cold and temper rollingprocesses including a non-circular roll profile and a mixed lubrication model based on lubricant flow and surfaceasperity deformation models (only Coulomb friction is used in this paper however).

AbstractWool‐biting behavior in housed sheep is a serious animal welfare problem and is difficult to control. Since we have found that sheep fed on rolled hay performed less post‐feeding wool‐biting than those fed on baled hay, here we mixed these two kinds of hay in four different proportions (0%, 33%, 67% and 100% of rolled hay) to test the effect of

This article proposes a semi-analytical solution of von Karman’s rolling equation on the elastic foundation. Theroll indentation is considered as the spring compression of the elastic foundation of the work roll. A non-circularcontact arc is obtained naturally as a part of the solution of the governing equation.
