Rolling Perception without Rolling Motion
Perception, 2008The texture of a rolling circle depicts the translational and rotational components of its motion. In the case of a homogeneous circle, however, visual cues to the rotational component of motion are absent. To examine how the visual system resolves undetermined motion cues, optically neutral circles were displaced so that changes in their orientation ...

Rolling back to roll forward: depoliticisation and the extension of government
Policy & Politics, 2014Premised on the assumption that depoliticisation is a crucial aspect of neo-liberal governmentality, this paper attempts to synergise these two, previously disparate, concepts. Borrowing from Foucault’s theorisation of governmentality and drawing from inclusive definitions of politics/ the political, this paper argues for a reformulation of our ...

Roll, roll, roll your leucocyte gently down the vein.
Immunology Today, 1992The rapid advances being made in unravelling the biochemistry and function of the three categories of adhesion molecule involved in leucocyte-endothelial-cell interactions, namely selectins, integrins and the Ig super-family molecules, were highlighted at a recent meeting.

Roll-to-Roll Nanoimprinting Metamaterials
MRS Proceedings, 2012ABSTRACTWe investigated continuous fabrication of a large area 2-D metamaterial comprising a metal dot array on a dielectric coated substrate. We demonstrated patterning of metal dots arrays of varying patterns and shapes with diameter of about 2.5 μm and metal-to-metal spacing from 0.3 to 2.5 μm using a nano-imprinting stamp on a roller.

Simplified theories of flat rolling—I. The calculation of roll pressure, roll force and roll torque
International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 1996Abstract The classical theories of rolling continue to be widely used in practice although finite element methods can provide a more detailed analysis of the deformation during rolling. Both a homogeneous deformation solution and an inhomogeneous method for calculating the roll pressure are reformulated as a development of the classical theories of ...

In this paper we consider a homogeneous disc, which rolls without slipping on a horizontal plane under the influence of a vertical gravitational field. Due to the four dimensional symmetry group consisting of translations in the plane, rotations around a vertical axis and rotations around the axis perpendicular to the disc, one can reduce the dynamics ...

Journal of NeuroInterventional Surgery, 2019
This month’s Journal of NeuroInterventional Surgery ( JNIS ) presents manuscripts on a wide range of topics. The demographics of stroke and the indications for mechanical thrombectomy (MT) headline this issue much as they have done for the past year. Other highlights include: the description of a clot banking protocol, an analysis of pediatric aneurysm
