Prediction of fatigue crack initiation for rolling contact fatigue
International Journal of Fatigue, 2000In finite element (FE) simulations of a twin disc test of a wheel/rail contact, fatigue crack initiation criteria for elastic shakedown, plastic shakedown and ratchetting material responses were evaluated for a pearlitic rail steel BS11 normal grade.

Crack Behaviour under Rolling Contact Fatigue
1993A theoretical approach on surface crack influence on rolling contact stress field is presented. A steady rolling contact model and a fatigue crack model are combined. Connection between the two problems is introduced through surface geometry modification caused by displacements generated by cracks.

Microstructural Alterations in Rolling Contact Fatigue
1966Stress-induced, structurally altered regions of ball and roller bearings were examined by transmission electron microscopy. The sectioning procedure is described in detail. A dark-etched region on roller bearings of carburized 4620 steel contained banded areas which had little in common with the microstructure of the martensite elsewhere.

Rolling Contact Fatigue in High Vacuum
2014Thin-film coatings on the order of nanometers in thickness are particularly susceptible to atmospheric contamination which may negatively impact both their composition and performance. Testing in a high-vacuum environment is desirable to get an accurate assessment of performance and may also be used to quantify the effects of process behavior on a ...

Assessment of the Rolling Contact Fatigue
2017There are many methods for the service life estimation of the contact surfaces. The life of the cam mechanisms is commonly estimated theoretically. Experimental testing of the rolling contact fatigue is time consuming and this article deals with the description of the most suitable methods for a fast and easy assessment of rolling contact fatigue.
