A New Rolling Model for Three-Roll Rolling Mills

Key Engineering Materials, 2014
During the last 90 years, a lot of works have been published about rolling theories for the two-roll rolling process (2RP). In the last decades, the three-roll process (3RP) has become a significant technique in the production of wire rod and bars, as it allows to cover a wide range of finished dimensions with one pass design, or to realize very close ...

Simulation of a Cold Roll-mill

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1987
Abstract The paper describes the complete digital simulation of a four-stands continuous cold strip mill with its sheet supply and coiler. The whole program contains 150 integrators and twenty circular tables for variable delays. All models are non-linear and the programmation is implemented in ACSL language.

Scheduling a hot rolling mill

Journal of the Operational Research Society, 2007
This paper presents a heuristic algorithm to schedule a hot rolling mill in the aluminum industry. One problematic issue is the tight coupling between the homogenizing furnaces and the mill, which needs to be integrated into the heuristic design. The latter also takes into account standard technological constraints like alloy hardness transitions, roll

Rolling Mill Motors

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1909
Protection is extremely important in the steel mill where conditions are necessarily uncleanly, and electrical apparatus must work in the midst of dust, moisture, and gases. Large motors should be enclosed in solidly built tight compartments, ventilated by clean air if necessary, or should be of the totally enclosed type.

Choice of steel for rolling mill rolls

Metal Science and Heat Treatment, 2009
The most important properties of test Cr–Ni–Mo–V-steels, answering the main requirements specified for roll steels are studied: quenchability, hardenability, tempering stability, mechanical properties and impact strength, contact fatigue resistance. Dependences on roll cooling rate are determined for these properties.

Improving the durability of rolling-mill rolls

Metallurgist, 2010
This article examines methods of making rolling-mill rolls composed of hard alloys based on tungsten carbide. A new design is proposed for a compound roll to be used for the rotary rolling of semifinished products made of refractory metals. The roll includes a steel body and a hard-alloy insert.
