Detecting extirpation: A localized approach to a global problem
The global biodiversity crisis stems from a cascading series of extirpations driving species toward extinction. Addressing this crisis requires methods for early detection of extinction at local scales, where communities can mobilize conservation efforts.

Many plant species worldwide are struggling to regenerate due to the ongoing effects of climate change. These effects appear to be further exacerbated by the loss of keystone megafauna, which were important seed dispersers. By identifying the traits commonly seen in seeds spread by modern elephants, it is possible to predict which species likely ...

Moisture inversions in the central Arctic: Product assessment and long‐wave radiative effect
This study evaluates the integrated water vapour and the vertical distribution of water vapour of state‐of‐the‐art reanalyses, weather forecast models, and ground‐ and space‐based remote‐sensing products in the central Arctic. A particular focus lies on the representation of humidity inversions and the quantification of the long‐wave radiative effect ...

Modulation of North Atlantic atmospheric rivers by the Gulf Stream
Gulf Stream ocean variability plays a key role in modulating atmospheric river (AR) activity over the North Atlantic during winter and spring at monthly time‐scales. Increased ocean heat transport and mesoscale activity in the Gulf Stream are linked to northward shifts in ARs, while stronger surface heat fluxes drive ARs southward.
