Producing superhydrophobic roof tiles
Nanotechnology, 2016Superhydrophobic materials can find promising applications in the field of building. However, their application has been very limited because the synthesis routes involve tedious processes, preventing large-scale application. A second drawback is related to their short-term life under outdoor conditions.

CFD analysis of roof tile coverings
In hot climates tiled pitched roofs significantly reduce the heat transfer across the roof structure, due to the ventilated air layer between tiles and roofing underlay formed by the arrangement of battens and counter-battens supporting the tiles.

Leaf roof — designing luminescent solar concentrating PV roof tiles
2017 IEEE 44th Photovoltaic Specialist Conference (PVSC), 2016The Leaf Roof project on the design features of PV roof tiles using Luminescent Solar Concentrator (LSC) technology [1] has resulted in a functional prototype . The results are presented in the context of industrial product design with a focus on the aesthetic aspects of LSCs [2]. This paper outlines the design of Leaf Roof tiles under consideration of

Clay tiles for roofs are most commonly made from clay or concrete. In the clay type natural clay is mixed with additives such as quartz, mica, iron oxide and crystalline aluminium oxide. Clay tiles are fired in a kiln at around 1100°C to make the material both rigid and resistant to moisture penetration.

Automatic Quality Control of Roofing Tiles
1995It is standard practice, not only in the German roofing tile industry, to test all products at the end of the production process. The traditional test for roofing tiles comprises a sound test to detect cracks and a surface inspection. These tests are currently performed by sorting personnel.
