Sound insulation design of modular construction housing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This paper provides an insight into the acoustic issues of modular housing using the Verbus System of construction. The paper briefly summarises the history of the development of Verbus modular housing and the acoustic design considerations of the ...

Peptide Sequencing With Single Acid Resolution Using a Sub‐Nanometer Diameter Pore

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
To sequence a single molecule of Aβ1−42–sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), the aggregate is forced through a sub‐nanopore 0.4 nm in diameter spanning a 4.0 nm thick membrane. The figure is a visual molecular dynamics (VMD) snapshot depicting the translocation of Aβ1−42–SDS through the pore; only the peptide, the SDS, the Na+ (yellow/green) and Cl− (cyan ...

Subjective evaluation of an emerging theory of low-frequency sound source localization in closed acoustic spaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
An earlier reported theory of low-frequency sound-source localization within closed acoustic spaces proposed that virtual image acuity is strongly dependent on sufficient inter-arrival time between a direct sound and its first reflection.

Room acoustics and listening [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1983
The physical basis for sound propagation in rooms may be described by a time-domain model of reflection from the walls. Reflections arriving soon after direct source-to-listener transmission produce a perception of spectral “coloration” while later arrivals contribute “echo.” Directional perception and listener preference for rooms are heavily ...

Tunable and Recyclable Piezoelectric Biomaterials via Ion‐Directed Guanine‐Quadruplex Assembly

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Guanine‐quadruplex (GQ) assemblies, formed via ion‐mediated self‐assembly of amphiphilic guanine derivatives, are introduced as tunable and recyclable piezoelectric biomaterials. Distinct alkali ions induce unique dipole configurations and piezoelectric outputs, with K⁺ yielding the highest performance.

An end-to-end approach for blindly rendering a virtual sound source in an audio augmented reality environment

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Audio, Speech, and Music Processing
Audio augmented reality (AAR), a prominent topic in the field of audio, requires understanding the listening environment of the user for rendering an authentic virtual auditory object. Reverberation time ( $$RT_{60}$$ R T 60 ) is a predominant metric for

Local Thermal Conductivity Patterning in Rotating Lattice Crystals of Anisotropic Sb2S3

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Microscale control of thermal conductivity in Sb2S3 is demonstrated via laser‐induced rotating lattice crystals. Thermal conductivity imaging reveals marked thermal transport anisotropy, with the c axis featuring amorphous‐like transport, whereas in‐plane directions (a, b) exhibit 3.5x and 1.7x larger thermal conductivity.

Modulation masking phenomenon for masking signals of different spectral and statistical properties

open access: yesArchives of Acoustics, 2014
Modulation masking effect for modulation maskers of different spectral and statistical properties was investigated in this study. Three noisebands centred at 16 Hz were used as modulation maskers, namely: 1) 32-Hz wide Gaussian noise (GN 32 Hz); 2) 32 ...
